Does anyone else ever experience their truck accelerating on its own? The rpms just randomly shoots at 5k from 1.5k randomly and I have to press the brakes or else im going into someones ass.

If so why is this happening? My truck is fairly new only 20k miles on it and its a 2023 trd sport

Mine did that twice before right around that same mileage too.
Has not done it again and I am at 50k miles now.

Toyota dealers have a process for unintended acceleration events. Book it in sooner than later.

Check your floor mats. 95% of all the claims were because of numerous mats stacked on each other. Or cheap Amazon mats.

I've had 2 self accelerate due to pedals, one was a LS430, I hit neutral pretty quick on it, but a customer doesnt have that inherent reaction.

The 2nd gens had many mat issues with manuals, super sketchy, the clutch would get caught lol.

This had happened several times to me but the last couple times, over a year ago now, there was no actual acceleration just the rpm jump. I couldn’t duplicate it if I tried. Also pressing the brake would stop though if I didn’t press the brake to see what happened, the rpm would go up then it would figure what it wanted to do. Never went to dealer as I could not duplicate it.

This was with a stock tune but also had it happen with an aftermarket tune. Switching the tune and getting an update seemed to stop it but I had also cleaned the MAF with the appropriate cleaner. I can’t remember what led me to clean that sensor but I had a reason.

Was also not the floor mat, have the oem all weather mats. I have no idea how someone would get that over the petal while driving but people are full of surprises .

I had an Acura vigor that started doing that. Turned out the MAF sensor was defective. I cleaned the throttle body and replaced the sensor and it never did it again.

It does that when I park it after a short drive, pissed off it didn't get out longer. I am use to it. Mine has a personality and I actually kind of like that in my truck. My motorcycle is parked in front of the "Blue Taco's" spot. I always thought she was trying to squeeze my bike outta the picture.

I had my RPMs increase coming to a stop as the truck was appearing to downshift into 1st gear stopping at a traffic light. My foot was already on the brake pedal so I don't know if it would have lurched forward.

Are you running any type of transmitter in the truck? My friend’s S10 would accelerate when using the cruise control and keying up on an illegally boosted CB radio.

edit: Really, it wasn’t my S10.

    Eric,

thanks for explaining what the MAF was, (Mass Air Filter) sensor (located right pass the filter in sticking into the tube).

I've not had issues with OEM or OTT tuning.

The only time my Sporty Spice SLIGHTLY lunges is when I take her out of gear while in my driveway...I don't press the gas and she slowly moves forward.
