Guy crossed over center line and hit me close to head one. Damaged the entire driver side of my truck. I never saw him coming and I never heard tires squealing which makes me believe he never braked. Guy hit me so hard my Tacoma came to a complete stop but not before it knocked the wheel off of his 2003 GMC Sierra.

Do you think this warrants a total loss?

Things to note, the Tacoma is a 2009 with 35K miles on it? High resale leads me to believe the insurance co will want to repair the vehicle, I am really hoping that is not the case.

Sheetmetal looks fixable, if they total it, it will be because of frame damage.

I was in an accident like this a couple of month ago. I totaled up all the damage I could see and I got $6500 , the final bill came in at $14500. As soon as a wheel is knocked off there is a ton more damage to everything that it attaches to. I agree that it's all about the frame though.

I would imagine your frame is tweaked some. if your air bag went off, probably will total it.

    I guess everyone was okay?

Hard to say really looking at pictures and without a thorough inspection of the damage.

I believe insurance companies generally total at 80% of wholesale value.

Some unscrupulous shops have been known to low ball the repair cost in order to "win" the repair bid then move the price up as the fix is accomplished. Make sure you use a high quality reputable shop. Maybe even one recommended by your insurance company.

With ABS, stability control and wet roads there may not have been tire squealing rather the other driver breaked or not.

    Best of luck.

in the best light possible; i hope that it gets totaled, you dont want a huge accident on the car fax. that said, i hope you and any passengers are OK. when i rolled my last tacoma on its side, they had close to $14K to work with before it was totaled....with a lot of body damage from nose to tail i only hit $8K. When they pulled off the wheel they then found that a mount for my control arm was practically ripped off. we'll just have to see. keep us posted.

Both myself and the other driver were ok...for the most part.
Unfortunately for the other driver, he was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (heroin) and possession with intent to deliver as well as trying to hide a needle he had in his truck. They also hit him with a reckless driving charge.
While on the scene the officers stated that he did not seem to be under the influence, but I am sure a drug test would have been administered afterwards in order to make that final determination. That could also be the reason why the guy just drove right into me without braking??
A major headache that I do not need. I'm just happy the guy didn't seriously hurt me and I feel the Tacoma deserves some of the credit for the fact I was uninjured.

    Glad you are okay.

Not sure about the unfortunate part, hopefully it'll be one less loser on the road.

Your right. I minced words there. Not really unfortunate for him, more unfortunate for me.
And his Insurance Co has not been able to reach him in 6 days which could mean this loser is off the road, off the road as in incarcerated.
More likely he is avoiding the insurance company. I am just amazed he had active insurance.

I'm also putting my bet in for totaled. There is a LOT of damage there.

Lets consider that the guys trying to buy spare headlights and swap out mirrors have been getting quoted $500-600 for lamps and over $300 for mirror parts...If it didn't roll of the line on the truck, Toyota is going to charge an arm and a leg for it.

Hypothetically speaking, if you wanted to build a desert runner with fiberglass fenders and bedsides, tube bumper, LT suspension and beadlock wheels...
