Airbags go off? That will go quite a ways to total it. No matter if totalled or not, you still lose. No matter how good his and your insurance is.

    Glad you weren't hurt.

I'm guessing totaled. One thing you don't consider, is how much they will get for it when they sell it. These have high resale value at copart.com and iaai.com cause they go all over the world from there. I know cause I buy them there. This is another reason they are hard to find a salvage yards...they get picked up by exporters before the junk yards can get their hands on them.

They do the math and if paying you 20k, selling for 10k at iaai is better than fixing for 14k, they total it.

    my $0.02

I was involved in an accident when I owned a Frontier and they insurance company wanted to order a new frame and move parts over to the new frame. The dealership convinced the insurance company that it wasn't worth the future headaches and issues down the line to attempt to repair the truck. I thought that mine was a clear cut case of a totalled vehicle, but the insurance companies like to play their stupid games.

Good news/bad news....depending on how you look at it. They are planning to repair my Tacoma.
The estimate came in at just under $12,000. That includes the "frame time" required for the repair. According to the body shop they do not think the integrity of the frame is actually damaged, but the frame needs pulled and straightened.
Anyways, not exactly what I was hoping for.
They did tell me that once they start taking the vehicle apart its possible they could find more damage that would push it to Totaled status. I'm not putting a ton of stock in that happening but we will see.
A few members mentioned "diminished value." However in the state of PA the courts do not recognized diminished value. While it may exist, it is not something you can sue over....with that being said, if vehicle damage does not fall into the 80%+ range than insurance co's in PA are more than likely going to repair the damage. My vehicle is in the 70% range. Who knows, maybe there is something else damaged that will cost a few more thousand? Too bad the airbags did not deploy, that definitely would have had me close to that threshold.
Oh well, life goes on. I am safe and here to write about it. Just hoping to get my truck back and go from there.

    Unfortunately...it does not.
I previously owned a RED 2007 AC Trd OR along with a Red 2005 CRF 450.
I also listened to a ton of metal (death metal) at the time I joined this site. So those things, plus the fact that my 450 was always trying to "kill me" were the inspiration behind the screen name.

Glad to see your Taco kept you safe. Hope you get back on the road asap. Rental cars always suck.
