Hey everybody, looking to get some input on my Tacoma audio system. Currently have OEM Audio + speakers, Stock hu, JL VX600 amp w dsp, JL sub and sub amp. Doors have been sound deadened but not thrilled with the sound quality, highs are bright but a little muddy, DSP was tuned by me so that may be the issue lol. Since the Tacoma wiring doesn’t split the front 6x9’s and the tweeters into separate channels it makes it hard to tune. Should I run wires to separate the channels for the dsp? Or would other components sound better than the OEM audio stuff? Thanks

Get rid of the factory speakers and go aftermarket and you’ll be able to tell a huge difference even with the stock head unit.

I have the upgrade speaker kit from OEM audio plus, fronts rears and tweeters, but I’m a little underwhelmed by the performance of them

Sounds like you probably need to put them on an amp.

I only did the front doors, tweeters, and put in a 20 watt JVC head unit. I'm most impressed with the sound. Hell I can even hear the stock rear speakers.

Maybe its just me, but I have been perfectly satisfied with my OEM sound system. I'm not saying there is not a difference or that it is great. I would just rather throw my money at other truck mods and accessories before I even considered changing speakers.

Turning off the ASL (automatic sound levelizer) in the headunit really improved the sound quality at lower volumes for my ears.

I'm running higher end gear SQ type gear, recycled from 2 previous cars where they sounded fantastic, and it's meh in the Taco. I'm blaming the source.

I had a expensive aftermarket sound system in my Jeep Wrangler (awarded worst factory sound system ever). That was in 2005. My 22 access cab has lame sound and I have considered sound deadening and speakers. I don’t have room for a sub tho. Am I hearing it won’t make much a difference?

    change the head unit.

    garbage in/garbage out.

the factory radio has a custom eq curve specifically developed to try to make the oem speakers sound better than they are. problem is, once you start tweaking the pieces installed, that eq no longer works as intended, and tends to make things worse, not better.

definitely check out the audio section. lots of us doing everything from simple installs to overly complex full-active installs...
