Can anyone suggest what may be wrong with Auto Start on my 2021 Tacoma, Dbl. Cab 4WD w/3.5 V6? Low 24K miles, I have checked & replaced both key fob batteries. It was working up to this winter. Dealer wants $250.00 just to look it over and see what's wrong!! They did tell me it is not a prescription cost version. I could probably have a new auto start installed for what they charge to diagnose it. -thanks!

Probobly not a dealer issue. If your fob just randomly stopped working for remote start, call corporate and complain that they disabled your oem remote start (which does not require a subscription). If you’re persistent, they will turn it back on.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Same situation here with my '21 OR AC. Corporate unilaterally terminated the ability to use the fob to remote (NOT Auto) start. 4 years almost to the day.
I have a problem with this because this essentially means that the manufacturer modified the product I purchased (100% owned by me) without any notice as to why this modification was necessary. They essentially removed a feature that was a part of what I bought.
Time to bitch at Toyota Corporate.

Anyone have a phone number for corporate? Or suggestions how to contact them specifically?

I would highly recommend going with a Compustar DC3 aftermarket system installed. I work with Best Buy Geek Squad for 9 years now doing the auto installs. With the DC3 system which if you look on Best Buy webpage and check occasionally the Compustar system are the deal of the day for huge savings and the price you see has installation included with all you will need is the harness to wire up which with Best Buy is $.01. I also recommend this system as now with these aftermarket ones you can do a proper takeover with our 3rd Gen's. Meaning like with yours currently when it worked it would shut down when you opened the door.

That is a Toyota only convenience designing that is not how most RStart systems work. With this system in my truck you can RStart and let run till you want to get in and just unlock truck, open the door, sit down, hold your foot on the brake for a good 1 Mississippi and the Toyota key will take back over control of vehicle . You can shift to drive or do as you wish.

My system I choose for the 2 way confirmation silver key with it... CS4905S-KIT

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.

Damn. Gonna look into that. That system doesnt ring a bell. But I have been thinking of an after market one.

My auto start recently stopped working. Never liked the auto time cut offs or the engine kill. Been thinking of getting an after market auto start simply out of spite. Disabling the factory auto start is some of the most rent seeking bullshit and I hate everyone involved in the process that decided that was the way to go.

    Seriously.

It's not as if it costs Toyota anything for someone to use that feature. The technology is already installed in the truck and fob.

It's nothing but a d*ck move to charge for it after a "free trial."

Are you referring to the controlling of the RS via the phone being disabled? Or via the factory key fob? How are you attempting to RS it now that you no longer have the free trial?

The key fob. I deleted the Toyota app as soon as my remote start free trial ended. I didn't see anything on there i needed on my phone.

Yeah I did the same with the app… it would be nice to just include it with the fact we purchased the vehicle from them but everything now a days has to be making money while being a “subscription”

When you use the key fob… you have the vehicle locked already, wait a moment then press lock twice with a decent pause in between and then press and hold on the third lock press with the lights starting to flash it should begin… but for you it doesn’t even try to RStart for you anymore?

I ask as mine still did with the factory like that but I wanted the takeover capability I spoke of before that’s why I installed the Compustar that allows me to do that.

Read through this. A bunch of us had it stop work all around the same time.
I'm convinced it is a marketing ploy to get more owners signed up on the Toyota App.
Apparently if you load the App you can opt out of most of the tracking features and it will work again. I don't use it enough to warrant signing up for the app.
Mine worked for almost three years without ever signing up for the App.

No I understand that’s the thing I have seen it soo much on here that I am trying to see what in the world Toyota would be possibly doing to shut it “off”. Toyota even in the 4th gen vehicles, still in their bare bones of the vehicles they design, are very analog systems. The factory remote start is not something that is controlled via some data connection to Toyota or of any sort that I can confirm so far. I again don’t know enough yet of the system to confirm this.

I am wanting to jmake sure on all bases that everyone that is having these “no longer allows me” after not continuing the Toyota app subscription that you are all performing the commands properly with the key fob.

Reason being from my own dealings with installing on these vehicles many times, aftermarket RStart systems, is we have to sometimes remove a fuse for the factory RStart system to then program our aftermarket system, then place the fuse back and all is hunky dory. I’m not saying this is happening but I’m wondering if besides not correctly pressing the fob command procedure properly that if you have gone to the dealership for any kind of maintenance if they possibly pulled this fuse. I highly doubt this but just super curious if that’s all that could be happening.

I again need to look more into some of the wiring and systems for factory RStart of the third gen’s when I’m at work today if possible between jobs. I’m just not sure that Toyota has the capabilities to shut it off because “You no longer have the app” via some data connection. I want to research more diagrams and see that they could do that via some data connection that they still have of our vehicles. Possibly 4th gen’s but I don’t know yet. I will research using my resources all I can and see what I find and reach back out about why it would have stopped working.

No, that only worked for me during the 3-month "free trial" period.

My remote start shut off from the app and fob at the same time.

I don't care enough about it to pay $15/month or buy an aftermarket doohickey. I keep my truck in the garage. And I have a reserved parking space at work literally 10 feet from the door where I work. So if for some reason I want to warm it up, it's easy enough to do so.

I used the key fob remote start since my truck was new from the dealer in Sep 2023. I never had the app. The fob quit working all of a sudden after over a year, I called Toyota and they said I had to do the master data option with the app. Then it started working immediately.

While I agree about Toyota being seemingly way behind in Tech.
It is absolutely, (factory remote start,) something they have control off. Too many folks lost the ability, then got it back as soon as they updated and signed into the app. Pretty pour public relations in my opinion. No where and by no one was I told it would be shut of after any period of time.
My wifes 2016 Rav4 has the dealer installed remoted start. Works exactly like it does (use too) for my Tacoma. Hers has never missed a beat. She uses it all the time in the winter.

Where you can start the vehicle with the app or with the fob. Good for warming it up from your kitchen or office in winter time, I guess.
