The truck should be capable of running 80mph without killing itself. My 07' with the same tires and lift didn't have any issues at all . That's my main issue.

If a second gen can run 95 mph and still get in the 18 range then this new obimimation with supposedly more hp should be able to do the same or Better .
    But can't even come close

What part is killing itself, you mean the shifting? Take it off cruise and see how it does at 80.... mine climbs and powers up the hills just fine.

Using cruise control at certain speeds seems to be the biggest cause of complaints for some of you. All you have to do is figure out when and where to use it best.

As someone who drives a manual transmission my opportunities to use cruise are pretty rare as it is. Every time I wanna downshift I gotta pull it out of cruise.

Maybe this is how Toyota is defining the line better between the Tundra and Tacoma to reduce overlap. You want / need more grunt at higher speed, buy a Tundra.

I recently bought a 2008 SR5 with 108k miles and I'm going to have a mechanic take a closer look at the transmission or differential. I wanted to check the transmission fluid anyway, but I can't.
When I'm coming to a complete stop or taking my foot of the brake to take off it feels like it shifts down hard. I've been meaning to start a thread and see if anyone could give me any information or advice about it. :help:

It also shifts a little erratically when changing speeds in lower gears, but I think I've read that is just a characteristic of the 2nd Gens. It is strange to me though since my 92 Chevy and 98/2000 Dakotas shifted very predictably.

(EDIT: Sorry, didn't see this was in the 3rd Gen forum. New to forum)

The farkles have started and on order
I have to say looking at that video of the tach jumping on cruse my doesn't do that. The only complaint is have is when the trans is cold if I don't keep on the gas and lift my foot and then put it back down when it shifts to second it slips and will rev up to almost 4k before it cat he's again and shifts. Once it has warmed up the trans works fine.

If I just didn't sell a 2007 tacoma that would cruise at 80 . I maybe would feel better . I buy a new truck thinking it would be equal to or better than my 9 year old tacoma .

I guess it depends on your comparables; I went from an 04 to a 2016 and the power is like night and day. Doing anything over 70 in the 04 seemed like you were really pushing the truck and you could literally watch the gas gauge drop. That truck never felt comfortable or seemed made for going over 70. Tundra's were a bit bigger then with V8s.

Once they came out with the 2nd Gen that were bigger and more powerful, it blurred the lines between the Taco and Tundra. Compare an 05 Taco and 05 Tundra sometime, damn near the same in size and power. Later the redesign helped boost some aspects of the Tundra but it was probably never going to displace the Taco as a sales leader for trucks. My guess then was for Toyota to make them more distinct, market the Taco based on its offroad capabilities and manageable size against the Tundra's power and load capacity. Why do you think they got rid of the 5 lug trucks? It doesn't convey the offroad capabilities they want the Tacoma to represent.

Each truck then fills a niche, you try to make a Tacoma perform like a Tundra then you begin to find it's limitations.

Both directions, took a round trip to Blacksburg three weeks ago, cruise was set to 70. Round trip to Charlottesville on 64 two weeks before then, looking at colleges for the son to attend.

BTW, waiting to go to court on a reckless driving charge, 21 over in a 55 coming off the HOV where speed limit was 65. Cop said I was doing 76, cruise control off, 20 mph over posted speed, automatic reckless charge here.

Truck was doing that speed with no problems at all. The HOV has a rolling terrain.

Lawyered up and waiting for the court date (24 June) now.

Never thought I'd pay nearly 40 thousand dollars for a brand new vehicle and would have to perform my own warranty work on it.

The manual is better equipped to hold a gear because....Wait for it........................It's a manual transmission.

The 3rd gen Tacoma's chief engineer Mike Sweers who stated that nothing was carried from the 2nd gen except a seatbelt bracket (hence the name Seatbelt Mike).

There was a thread on him a few days ago with videos of him presenting and hyping up the 3rd gen

Over 20% + 40% voters showing they do not like it. Some hate it, others are not happy but learning to live with it. A sum of over 50% is more than half.

I've checked mine myself and so has the dealer....and it still shifts up & down, up & down on the same grade.

I don't take the "I'll learn to live with it" as negative as the tyranny smoothes out in most cases eventually with mileage. I'm sure some trannys are just trash too and need to be replaced, but not most. It's a good truck, just different intentionally and a new learning experience for most of us. Coming from 3 Tundras, two 5.7L and a 4.6L, the Taco has plentry of power; wasn't a whole lot could out accelerate the 5.7L and the 4.6L a second slower. My Dodge turbo 2500 diesel 5 spd was a real pig. You only think this one is expensive, try a v6 Ford with misfires; ought to hear them folks whine for $60K.

OK, as long as you checked it... that's the FIRST thing to do when trying to determine the cause... Sorry you have still have a problem... I'm just suggesting that if the dealer won't check MY $45,000 truck's tranny, then I will, cuz I care about MY truck more than they do..

I'm not gonna Pooch MY tranny because the freakin' dealer is stupid...(oh that will show them, eh??)

They do not give a shit for your truck.... you have already paid for it...!!
