I have a similiar problem, my pedal is mush also. The pedal seems to go to the floor, I checked the pads and they still seem fine but I have been contemplating changing the pads and doing a brake adjustment in the rear hoping that this will take care of the problem. Can anyone help and any comments would be appreciated...

I also agree, the brakes are sub-par for this truck. Why Toyota didn't go with 4 wheel discs in the first place is beyond me. The only real solution to this problem is to purchase an upgrade on the the pads, rotors and maybe go with SS lines while you have your card out.

Same here. This is my only beef with the truck so far. My Sierra would screech to a halt if you breathed on the brake pedal. The Taco's pedal doesn't have a lot of travel but it just seems to require more effort to bring the truck to a stop. Although my friend's Silverado's brakes sucked (4 wheel disk) compared to the Sierra so I think it just varies from truck to truck.

The Tacoma has the best 60-0 braking distance in the mid-size pickup market.
    Braking distance (60-0):

    Tacoma - 131
    Frontier - 142
    Dakota - 145
    Ridgeline - 149
    Colorado - 156

Mine are fine. But I don't have allot to go off of....I had a ford ranger before I got my tacoma and the brakes on that truck sucked! For as light as the ranger was, it took forever to come to a dead stop.

Maybe but that must be with your whole body weight on the pedal. I think the Tacoma's brakes are really mushy. Before I bought my 09 I tried a used 07 and figured that the brakes just needed replacing. But my 09's are no better and everyone who has driven my truck agrees. Wait too much pedal effort needed. I just bought an 06 BMW 525xi and the braking difference is unbelievable. I know its apples and oranges but Toyota should take a lesson on braking from the Germans.
