Traded in my fj for tacoma last week. And sold my 07 ridgeline rtx to girlfriends Dad with 242k. Ridgeline engine and tranny are really smooth. Ridgeline tail gate was great. Lots of storage inside cab. I will admit i did drive a zr2 and ridgeline before buying tacoma. Zr2 was fun but weak interior. Ridgeline Cabin and ride were nice. Just couldn’t get past soft exterior. Too mommy mobile looking. When you look at the ridgeline some might say what the hell is that. When you look at the tacoma you know what it is.

I'm just curious about the whole spare thing. Does any know if the OEM jack is actually rated to lift a loaded Tacoma? Would that be something someone would attempt?

Having a spare where RL has it prevents it from being rusted to hell. I personally had to get a tow in a rental truck once because I couldn't get the spare down. The tow truck driver tried too and he couldn't do it either. The mechanism was completely seized.

Not an issue in my 13 year old Tacoma. Drop it often to add air and you'll be fine.

I drop the spare on my truck twice a year to clean it and check the pressure, plus to make sure the mechanism is lubed, just common sense preventive maintenance.

That makes sense. I'm guessing since I was in a rental, it probably was never done.

If i did it before every long road trip i would be doing it weekly.
Off road flats are one thing. Any idiot would put the spare in the bed and get a decent jack before a long off road trip.
On road is a different thing. The truth is, as long as you check your tires and replace them before getting to the wear bars the chance of having a flat is about the same as you being in an accident. #statisics

I'm willing to bet that isn't remotely true. I've been in one accident in ten years but I seem to get screws or other debris lodged in my tires once to twice per year. This will be my first year with LT rated tires and a Truck, however. All previous experiences were on P rated.

It surprises me how often people drive by my house with totally flat tires, they either do not know how to change a tire or they do not carry spares. It usually late evening or overnight and you can hear the Thump, Thump, Thump coming, guess they totally destroy the tire and wheel in the process.

Ah, while your statement has merit, you control your tire's destiny. Other people can control you being in a wreck. Hell yes I wear my seatbelt.

    Flat Tires
Approximately 7 tire punctures occur every second! Resulting in 220 million flat tires per year. Statistics also show that every driver will experience on average up to 5 flat tires in their lifetime.

    Crashes
By industry estimates, you will file a claim for a collision about once every 17.9 years. That's if you're an average driver, which, whether you're willing to admit it or not, you likely are. So if you got your license at age 16, the odds are quite good that you’ll experience some kind of crash by the time you’re 34, at the latest. Over the course of a typical long, driving lifetime, you should have a total of three to four accidents.

    Analysis
Up to five flat tires in a lifetime. four accidents that require having a claim filed. PLUS the average driver usually has 3-4 "minor" scrapes and bumps that they pay for repairs out of pocket. That puts the likelihood of being in some type of crash HIGHER than getting a flat tire.

BTW I don't post opinions, and if I am going to make a claim like I did above, you can be damn sure I checked it out before posting, unlike your "I'm willing to bet that isn't remotely true" statement. Remember you are but one little data point on a long number line of analysis. What happens to you is usually not what happens to someone else. Pay up.

Wonder if the tire stats factor in where people live, I have easily had more than 5 flats in the last 10 years alone and tire construction had improved over the years.

Wheres the link to your source? Where's the actual data? Just because a blog said something you take it at face value? Statistics say something? Oh wow, statistics say it, it must be so! You may not post opinions, but that doesn't mean you post facts.

Let's take your data at face value, thats almost as many flats as there are vehicles on the road. If we assume there are 263 million vehicles on the road such as Wikipedia says, thats .83 flats per vehicle. That suggests a whole hell of a lot more than 5 flats in a lifetime.

7 tire punctures a second is 220,752,000 punctures per year, to be exact. The latest statistic I can find from NHTSA says there were 5,338,000 crashes in 2011. So do some critical thinking, and decide, which sounds more likely, having one of the 220 million + punctures or having one of the 5.338 million car crashes?

I'll forgive you being an arrogant jerk about it, you thought you were right about something on the internet (probably a rare thing for you) and got overly excited.

    That is classic!

    I control my tire's destiny......too funny!

Unfortunately for me and my tires, I can't control the roads destiny, but I guess if I isolated my tires from the road.......yeah, that's the ticket!

Oh, so NOW you go look shit up, after making your claim lol. Find me better statistics and I will gladly change my tune.
Several sources say the same on flat tires. Believe it or not. That's what I can find.

As far as car crashes, here you go https://www.forbes.com/sites/moneyb...y-times-will-you-crash-your-car/#4a2dcdb64e62 and their source was from a paywalled site from insurance companies.

I (We) can make numbers say anything we want. Numbers don't lie, it all depends on how it's presented. This is an argument neither can "win" because we don't know the methodology. On face value, if everyone can have up to five flats in a lifetime and if you can have a insurance claimed accident 3-4 times in a lifetime and you add the ones that are not reported, then you stand a better chance of getting in an accident.

OTOH, if there were 5.3M crashes and there were 220M flats, the chances of getting a flat are much greater.

Now, which one is real? I don't know.

I am not arrogant nor am I a jerk. I don't post claims before at least checking them out.

Last thing: I NEVER address the poster, only the content of the post. I suggest you do the same or else you won't be here very long. ;)

Pay attention to where your tires are lol. Don't be like my wife and hit curbs, drive on the edges of roads, aim for potholes, etc is what I meant. If you have ever walked alongside of a major road, there is usually nothing where the normal tire track is. Once you get towards the side of the road, that's where the the tire eating stuff takes place. And yes, you control where your tires are on the road. Hopefully.
