    Tacoma is up 23.30%

    but...

    http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2018/10/sporty-car-sales-in-america-september-2018/

*The GT86 sold 325 units and is down 38.7%.

*The Nissan Z barely sold 275 units.

*The Japanese sports car is dead. I know that the Supra is coming out soon, but I don't think that will sell well either.

I know people said they wanted a light weight and cheap RWD sports coupe, but honestly looks like they don't--at least with regards to the GT86. It's been a sales disappointment since it debuted.

I think Mid-size trucks are going to replace sports cars as the young man's testosterone-laden vehicle. Full size trucks will be for the working Family men.

When the Bronco and Ranger come back, it will be very obvious then.

Tiny sports cars have never sold well, relatively speaking. So it’s no surprise. And with low gas prices, truck and suv’s Have dominated the market. Once it starts going back up, FE vehicles will be popular again.

If I had the garage space, though, I wouldn’t mind an 86 to scoot around town in.

The original Toyota Supra is highly sought after, especially the Turbo. Owners modify them over 2500hp and they can sell for upwards of $100k

The trend is towards an outdoor lifestyle again. People are camping, hiking, fishing, visiting state parks and traveling more than ever. I see it at the boat launch, trail heads, and with state park campgrounds cutting the sites you can reserve by half because they're so popular now they need to leave sites for common folk

A lot of that can be done in a car. But trucks and SUVs fit the bill.

Lots of factors at play here.

I dont think Japanese sports cars are dead, I think people are just waiting it out for the next generation to come out or they're like me and prefer the early 90's - late 2000's models. More driver involvement and less techno wizardry.

Interesting though I think its a bit opposite with the midsize and full-size as new single guy thing. I see way more single, 20 something dudes with 6'' lifted, 20'' wheel full size diesels, supercrews, etc. rolling around than guys in midsize trucks.

The 86 or FRS was a disappointment to begin with, platform had a lot of potential before Toyota first made it a Scion and also gave it cheap interior, unimpressive powertrain. When the Supra drops, you'll see guys lining up to pay over MSRP I bet.

Well...Taco doesnt really have any real competition right now in the mid size truck segment. Probably closest is Chevy Colorado (especially their diesel) but resale value/design is not even in the same league as the Taco.

However, 2019 will be interesting with the new Jeep truck and the Ford Ranger hitting the market. Eagerly looking forward to these numbers come Oct 2019 :). Throw the Ranger Raptor in the mix (if it makes a debut in 2019), then even more interesting!!

It looks like the 2nd generation Honda Ridgeline is going the way of the 1st generation. Will there ever be a 3rd generation made?

GT86 and the Z are terrible excuses for sports cars. The 86 barely cracks 200hp, 7sec 0-60, and BARELY gets into the 14's for quarter mile. The 370Z is probably a better indicator but then again its a Nissan (the worst selling out of the big 3 japanese) and it drives like shit. It's got good power at least.

Honda doesn't release sales numbers with the Civic Type R specifically but the Civic has seen a bump and Toyota doesn't have a legitimate offering. As far as fast-car market, mustangs, challengers, magnums, camaros, ect. still all sell.

If you wanna talk sales and make an overreaching argument - the real argument is that the small SUV crossover is the trend. Easily the new hotness in terms of sales figures. The increase in sales of CRV/HRV/Rav4/ect. type cars totally eclipses the small bump in pickup truck sales.

Power wasn't the point of the GT86, and that is obvious from the name. The Japanese auto manufactures killed off all their sports cars in the early 2000s due to poor sales. They eventually brought them back, but each one was a sales failure except for maybe the 350Z.

If you look at the sales for Mustangs and Camaros, they are both down significantly.

Cross-overs have been dominating sales rankings for a while now. There is nothing new about that.

pretty sure the miata handles like a go-kart and scoots the 1/4 in the low 14's. It's ugly as fuck to me but it is fun to drive. S2000-esque.
