Tacoma claims another new guy!

Hello to all you Taco fans!

I’m new to the Tacoma family as of this past weekend, when I found an Army Green 21 TRD OR with MT sitting at a Ford dealership here in Colorado.

I recently downsized from a Ram 2500 with a 6.4L gasser. While I will miss the torque, power, and luxury of the Ram, I WON’T miss the avg 13mpg and near $90 frequent fill-ups. We had the Ram to pull a large camper that was recently sold. No longer need all that iron. Plus, this Tacoma is just fun to drive and should suit my needs for a good many years.

Several years ago, I had a 2007 FJ with a manual, and really liked that vehicle. Life happened and I had to do some horse-trading with vehicles, but decided at the time that I would try to get back into another Toyota at some point. Well, here I am.

Very excited about this truck, and also for the knowledge base out here on TW that will help me learn about this thing. I look forward to listening and contributing where I can.

why was a 21 sitting at a Ford dealer?

 

Supposedly the previous owner bought it in February, but over the summer decided to buy a fifth-wheel camper. Traded it for a Super-Duty.

My 2010 TRD OR I picked up in 2011 was a trade in at a Ford dealer. They didn’t even know what they had so I got a SCREAMING deal. On the test drive they asked “what you doing?” When I was testing the locker and I said “oh nothing”.

I have to ask, what's it feel like switching from a Ram 2500 to a Tacoma? I've never owned anything bigger than my current Xterra, so every time I drive a full-size truck I feel like I'm one wrong turn away from blocking the Suez Canal.

Black is hard to resist. Before I found this one, I saw a 2018 OR MT in black that I was going to check out. Was very sharp…can’t go wrong with a deep black.

 

You won't miss the 13mpg because this new truck will still give em to you Mine gives me 14-15 and that's without any armor.

Seriously bro, you're gonna start out at 18-20...then you're gonna get a lift, tires, other cool stuff and before you know it you're back at 13mpgs.

Ha! Well, two things have immediately happened…I can park the Tacoma without feeling like I’m maneuvering an aircraft carrier, and I can walk around the truck in my garage without opening the garage door. This is huge, at least for me. It means that when it’s freaking cold outside, I don’t have to open the big garage door to get around the truck over to my workshop, releasing any small amount of heat that might have accumulated.

Not having the huge low end grunt of the Ram will be missed, but as I get older, I don’t really feel the need to mash the pedal everywhere I go any more. I loved my Ram, but quickly falling for this Taco the more I drive it.
