They did slide on black ice- you had to kick them against the tire a bit to get a bite. They don't work well on smooth concrete though, just rough or on frozen dirt ot asphalt. Oh yeah, they ice lock in very well, so be careful not to get stuck by them in the morning!

It’s been stupid warm up here this winter, only dropped below -20° a few times. What I really was getting at is that the wind chill only affects organic matter. No matter what the wind chill rating is the exposed metal of the truck will never drop below the ambient air temperature.

    You guys are tough man!
The parts stores here can’t keep up on batteries. The state cops have upped patrols for stranded motorists and shit. Our city is dead no ones out on the roads.

Please, send some cold out this way. It feels like spring right now. Only time we get cold is during the night, it’s warm throughout the day and direct sunlight for 8 hours doesn’t help. I’ve worn pants once this winter...

I always use the park brake.... If you don't use it....you'll lose it.... This phrase is very important to parking brakes...!!

I've used it in my 2006 Taco and now my 2016 Taco.....(12 yrs) NEVER had an issue; however, I live in an area that when it gets cold...it STAYS cold...!! I think that's the issue here....

Vancouver island or any other "tropical" part of Canada has temps that are up & down all the time. That's where the problem starts..!

I've only been driving for 50+ Years, but most of it up north in winter time...!

Use yer Parking Brake accordingly..!:canada:

I'd gladly send you some -40 weather if you would put your pants back on..!! Damn, that must create an issue with your driver's seat in the Taco... hope you don't have leather... hehe:rofl:OR get pulled over...:eek::eek:

I love the cold whenever I get out of town, except for the shrinking effect lol
Being born here, I’m also used to the 120+ direct sunlight during the summer and being able to bake cookies in my truck, so it’s a blessing to go somewhere cold. Just came back from Cali, I was expecting my cold but nothing, just the same weather as here. No leather in the Taco thankfully, but the 17’ Lariat has yet to see the summer heat, it’s in for a rude awakening.

Our Motor Sgt. at Ft.Riley said anybody that used the E brake on one of his vehicles in the winter would get an article 15 and extra duty.

When I do the fall tire rotation, I always pull the drums, check for wear/shrapnel & use a can of brake clean. Spray Triflow & work the cables too. Never had a winter problem with the Ebrake. That's what it is, an Ebrake. When I really need it is an E mergecy.

I was at Ft. Riley on Custer Hill from 76 to 80, C Company 121st Signal Battalion, Radio Teletype operator. I could not get out of that place.

Good to know, I may add these to my company trucks kit. Or at least try them out to see if it should be something we should look at.

    Thanks

Who said they lived on Vancouver Island? Presuming I forgot to update my profile as to where I live, which is sadly now Grande Prairie. Even when I lived on Vancouver Island, 75% of my time was spent in northern Canada for work or in some place where you froze your balls off working in the field. Ugh, I was hoping those days were over, sadly I just cannot seem to get away from them.

Anyways, I agree the issue starts with moist conditions and it getting in the drums and causing this issue, be it your driving to work through puddles, slush, etc. It happens even in damn cold temps, there can and will be moisture at times, its the nature of the beast in winter.

My brother, Spc. Bruce Nicholas was the supply clerk at 121 Signal from 1978 to 81. We were stationed a couple blocks apart. We rented a trailer in J.C. and spent most of our time living off post. His wife got homesick so he sent her home.. We had a blast. Miss him very much.

His buddy at 121 Signal was a boxer and all I remember him by is "Mac" or "Mack" don't know if that was his last name or first.

I think you will find them useful, when set they were solid. It was not hard to set- just place firmly against the tire and drive at idle speed forward a bit on them so they bite into the ice. You have to back up a bit off them to remove. If they get frozen stuck during removal, (once mine were stuck in refrozen slush) I just gently kicked from the side a bit to loosen them. I don't use them anymore as I moved to Southern California - it was below 10 degrees last night!! (Degrees C :))

I'm so sorry to hear that. I am stuck in GP for another 8-10 months and I am about ready to pull what is left of my hair out. Nah it is not that bad, but all we do is work here and when I get time off, I bail the heck out of dodge really quickly.

What I need to do is buy a parcel of land around Golden/Fernie and setup a log cabin to go home to.
