I love the way they solved the trash problem in Wroclaw, Poland (they did the same in many other places too). All residents are charged flat rate for trash service regardless of the trash can size or amount of garbage you put out. There is no problem putting your trash in your neighbor trash cans when yours is full or even pick some trash from the sidewalk and put it in some trash can - costs nothing and keeps streets clean. On the top of that the City is putting hundreds of dumpsters all over the city every two weeks for people to put oversize trash in there (free of charge). And finally you can drive to city dump and leave you trash there - any amount for free. The only bad thing from that is you can't get you truck weighted there - they don't care how much trash you bring.

You will not find construction trash, old furniture, junk cars or boats on the side of the road. Why would you bother going somewhere to dump you trash illegally if you can have it picked up by the city for free. Of course it is not free - it is included in property taxes, but this is is mostly fair. In average everybody produces the same amount of trash so everybody pays the same flat rate. That's something California could learn from Europe.

I know you’re from Cali. You know how bad our dumping problems are haha. Especially here in San Francisco and Oakland.

I don't see a problem with that. Most people are already taxed for their water supply, anyway because a lot of the water delivery infrastructure is fed or state owned and operated. Even the people on private wells benefit form federal and state funded water quality projects.

I was a member of airplane model club (http://www.masmrc.com/) and we had "adopt a street" program. It was unbelievable how much trash we cleaned up from that road every month.

It's an interesting program. I don't see a truly flat rate program passing the sniff test in most areas in the states. I wonder if commercial and residential treated the same...

You probably remember Whiterock Road. That area is BAD. Every time I drive out there to go to Prairie City OHV, there's a new pile of garbage (usually couches, etc...) and another burned out car.

For pickups, yeah. As long as the load isn't over the cab, it's $20. Cars are like $5. Small vans/SUVs are $10. Trailers are $48/ton

Personally, I think there should be a breakdown for small and large pickups, since i get charged the same as some guy in a 3500 dually (my whole truck could fit in the bed, weight wise, lol).

Well that’s nice. They charged me $51 dollars to dump half a ton of wood. It’s $109 per ton.

They scraped that idea when they found out they have no water to tax :)

Several years ago the city i lived put water restrictions in place. You could only water your lawn on certain days, fines if you went over so many gallons.

And it worked. The cities consumption plummeted. Success! Then the water company complained they weren't making enough money. So they added fees for all the water you werent using. The fees were more than the fines, so i watered every day, washed my car every day... and the cities water consumption doubled from pre restriction days, so i wasnt alone. So success! I guess. Politicians suck :)

Whiskey is for drinkin' water is for fightin'.

It's really stupid that more municipalities don't just charge people for the amount of water they use. My old house in city limits had water meters, but no one on the city council had the balls to actually turn them on. It's weird how they couldn't get anyone to reduce their consumption.

The other thing that grinds my gears is how long it takes the politicians to react to a drought, but how quickly they declare the drought is over. It's usually at least a year or 2 before they start calling it a drought and forcing water restrictions, but if it rains once, yay! drought over!

Sorry, but F that. CA doesn't have the water. Never really did, actually. CA is mostly a desert. The only reason it's not is because of the hundreds-thousands of miles of water delivery infrastructure that has been built. Don't get me started on those problems, lol

Problem I have is when i am fined for using solar panels and well water. I remember a story of someone getting fined and I believe a citation for collecting rain water.

Not a big fan of Cali. Never going there. I dont agree with the laws or ideology. Not to mention how much you get taxed for everything and the cost of living. I'll stick to GA.

Yeah, there were (are) laws on the books that prevented rain harvesting (barrels) because it altered the drainage patterns and senior water rights holders didn't like that because some of their supply came from storm drainage.

The recent droughts have forced changes to that.

Colorado recently passed a law that allowed home owners a whopping 2 barrels to harvest rain water. TWO!!

CA isn't nearly as restrictive, though local governments do publish some recommendations on how it should be done, like mosquito control, and not to use it on edible plants.

I had to take my gal to the Kaiser next to that lumber place so I rolled in and weighed the Taco-3920lbs without me in it. I figure I have about 20lbs. of items in it so I evened it to 3900. I have the Snugtop shell and a bullbar and I have no idea what those weigh on their own but I guess around 200lbs.

The curb weight of my Limited TRD is 3980 lbs with full tank, 4170 lbs with me inside. Measured at a rock and gravel store that I frequent.
The truck has a camper shell on it that weighs around 150 pounds. Other than that, it's completely stock.
