Check to make sure you have your 5volt reference at the mass from the ecu. Also any work done to the truck lately?

sounds like fuel pump, I would put in a few gallonsof gas in the tank to make sure its not extremely low to where the fuel pickup tube cannot suck up the gas in the tank

Are you referring to Mass Air Flow Sensor, or AFM on my truck? From visual inspection, it looks quite clean, and I fear that using MAF cleaner on it will damage it. I have seen people destroy the AFM by using cleaner. Is it safe to clean?

I am leaning more and more towards the fuel pump for sure.

That is a great recommendation! I absolutely will pick up a fuel can and some fuel today just to rule that out.

Okay, awesome. I found this information also, and that is what I set my fpr at for my Supra, so those figures make sense to me, thanks for the update! Looks like I need a "T" and SST in order to actually check the pressure for sure. I am debating trying to buy or borrow it from my local dealership, but I Have no relationship with them or any of the techs at all. New city for me!!!

    Will do.

We performed an oil change last weekend, 3,000 miles after we bought it. Aside from that, absolutely nothing.
HAHAHAHA !!! Fair enough! Have you had this happen before, or just interested?

Does it have to have the ability to read live data?

The one I have just reads codes, nothing else.

    Had a similar issue recently.

Truck was low on fuel (little less than 1/4 tank). I'm driving down a hill and the truck dies...Coast into a parking lot luckily and check for all the obvious. Fluid levels OK, truck sounds like it wants to start, but seems like it isn't getting fuel. I go to get 5 gallons of gas an put that in there. I also got my spare key at the time. Go to crank it after putting gas in and same thing, sounds like it wants to go but doesn't. I put the spare key in, and it fired right up....I can't say for sure what it was in my case, but I've been using the spare key since with no issues..

This is how people sometimes watch the thread to see what happens.

Still reading to see if I can help. But as up above it seems like it not getting fuel.
Did this in my civic. Removed fuel line before fuel filter and turn over the engine.
Brown fuel came out. Had to cycle the bad fuel out and put fresh.
Not sure if can do same scenario with the taco though.

Fog a little bit of starting fluid into the air filter box and see if it tries to start. That will tell you if it's a fuel related problem.

OHHHH MY F*CKING GOD. Thank you. Duhhhh! How many times have I done this in the past, and why did I draw a total blank about fuel system testing now?!!? This is why the forums are so great! Super helpful people like all of you helping me to get out of my own perspective.

Starting fluid sprayed, truck hiccuped to life for several seconds.
It is totally a fuel problem.
I am going to get a gas can and some gas (just in case its a fuel level sending unit issue/mis-calibration) but most likely the fuel pump has shit the bed on us.

    Yes, it does.
I made a quick video where I use it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTP18H85ARs

This video is unlisted, so you can only watch it from the link, because I am going to use this clip and make a complete tutorial on checking all of the components on the truck, so hopefully this problem will be able to help other people in the future!
I can't thank you guys enough for being so quick to provide intelligent, kind, feedback. It would have been much harder without you!

    :)

Multiple short trips with your tank that low won't trigger the light. Ask me how I know. I bet if you put a few gallons of gas in the tank and try to start it a few times it'll fire up the second or third try.

Augh, that would be AMAZING if that is the case. The rain subsided, so I'm about to head out to get some gas. I will keep y'all updated!

Glad you're making progress. If putting gas in the tank doesn't make it run, you really should do a fuel pressure test before you swap out the pump. I've never tried this, but in THEORY, if you disconnect the fuel return line and crank the engine, fuel should come out, as the fuel pump available pressure is exceding the pressure that the regulator is set at.
