Has anyone heard any rumors that Toyota will be installing a diesel in Tacoma?

I think cost is a major factor for an already expensive truck, don't ever see it happening.

So fucking pumped for this. I legit can’t wait to have to service and replace turbos, def pumps, def pressure sensors, def temp sensors, leaking def fittings, delta pressure sensors, shot out dpf filters, ghost codes, derates, nox sensors. I have set aside an entire savings account for the parts, and I set up fmla at my work for all the time off I’ll need when that bullsit system goes tits up. The best part is all the torque I’ll have. In my TACOMA. People gonna be so jelly, they gonna be all like “THATS A DIESEL! You just know he tows things from time to time. In his TACOMA.” There are SO MANY REASONS I could put that diesel power to use. In my fucking Tacoma.

Along with Ridgeline bashing, rear drum brakes and Consumer Reports, the diesel rumors are kind of a staple of TW....here is one thread citing accurate sources-

The word is that they're putting a diesel in that gets 50+ mpg, over 400 ft-lb of torque across the entire torque curve, disc brakes all around, a regular cab will be an option, and it'll cost under $40k and be reliable.

You can probably get one in a foreign market like Europe or South America.

It would have to meet strict emissions requirements here.
