    Hey all,

New to the forum with a question since my google-fu has been failing me.

Is there a handy table or listing of what type of differential is in each year/model truck and the axle location?

I've been trying to figure out what exactly is in my 2015 SR5 (Access Cab, 4wd, 6' bed ETA: V6 6MT). I know it has a locker, but is that just the rear axle? What's in the front (Open, LSD, Locker?). Is the transfer case equipped with a differential?

    Thanks!

With a SR5, it did not originally come with a locker.

    Front is wide open differential.

Transfer case is electronically controlled, 2-speed with a 1:2.57 ratio.

I'm not sure on the gearing of your truck since you don't specify 4-cyl/V6 and if your truck is manual/automatic transmission.

Check out the 2015 brochure I have attached for more specs and post you your remaining questions.

Right! V6 and 6 speed manual and tow package.

The brochure does fill in some of the gaps. I was wrong about the locker - I thought 4L switching meant locker - now that I've done some more reading yes the SR5 for my year should have an open rear differential and just use the traction control as a quazi LSD (ATRAC or whatever). I was reading that 4L/4H simply tweak the ATRAC system, in addition to actually kicking it into 4wd and setting the gear ratio there. Transfer case is fixed connection front/rear (no differential).

    Thanks for the info!

cross linking this reference as well.

The front differentials were only offered as open, unless you had electronic traction control, it could be considered “LSD” due to using front brakes to control wheel slip. The transfer cases are all open differential in the Tacomas, no AWD versions were had from the factory, though some have swapped in limited slip transfer cases in with success.
