Hi folks; just found the site. Next week my d-cab sport & leather will be in. It's been about six weeks because I wanted the 6 speed (not sure if it has to be a week per gear). The dealer gave me a 06 Camry during the wait. I think you should get what you want and they may give you a loaner till it comes in.

I love having a manual, stick is little bit more fun to drive. But after hearing about some problems with the 6 speed, and how some were switching to autos after owning a manual, I bought the auto.....and LOVE it. So far, using the gears off road by selecting the gear/gears you want to be in has worked excellent. I love that its a 5 speed auto, and this thing is so smoooooth...If I wanted to build the off roader of my dreams though, manual all the way.Plus I got used to driving auto 4x4 trucks at work, and those things live in NARLY places!!

I went to the dealer yesterday to place my order and I was told tacomas can't be ordered now bc they are revamping the plant for the 2011's. Long story short I test drove another auto because the whole reason I wanted the manual was bc the auto was not smooth at all. Well I drove the auto again and it was smooth as butter and I loved it! the other one I drove must have had a junky tranny or something. Put a deposit down and now I don't have to wait! Can't wait to pick it up

I feel that lag in my '10 Tacoma. For some reason it seemed to be dramatically reduced when I put premium in it?

Like everyone said, it's all a matter of preference. Before I got my truck, I've already decided that I wanted the 6spd and I had to look high and low to get the color and options I wanted and I am very satisfied that I got exactly what I wanted. I didn't wait 10 weeks but I did have to do a lot of research online to see which dealer had what. Out of 40 or so dealership here in CA, only 2 had the right truck.

a "2010 double cab, 4x4 trd off road" (and inherantly, its a short bed) only comes in an automatic.

if you want a manual, you will have to get an access cab.

"I've only ever had 1 auto and I hated every minute of it. I hated it in traffic, "

no offense, but this gets one vote here for the dumbest statement ever....

    in traffic?

    that's a no brainer... auto...

no thanks. it's 2010, it's an auto for me. makes no sense to do all the work for the truck... i get it for a sports car, but it's not a sports car...

Weird how the site doesn't allow you to choose a d-cab. I'm pretty sure they didn't cut the d-cab 4x4 off road in 6spd.

EAmonkey: I just checked the Toyota site and the DBL Cab comes with 6-Speed Manual only in short bed, 5 Speed auto Only with long bed. If you want Dbl Cab you must select it. Not sure why it didn't work for you on the toyota site, but again, I just checked it.

i tried it again, and i cannot select a 6-speed manual for a 4x4 double cab... it forces me to select an access cab.

maybe its a regional thing? whats your zip code? try it with mine (90292).

EAmonkey: I went back in and found out by putting my zip code 15905 I could get the Dbl Cab short bed in 6 speed man. , BUT, when I put your zip code in it will not allow the 6 speed Man with the Dbl Cab. My appoligies!

how odd. with your zip code, i can select the 6-speed manual with the double cab :)

i guess toyota thinks people from LA cant handle a 6-speed double cab truck :p

never mind me then.... move along... nothing to see here :D

    Yes, in traffic.

Before you call me dumb, perhaps I should explain myself.

Precisely what I hate about an auto in traffic is the way that it always wants to go forward unless you keep your foot firmly planted on the brake. I would much rather tickle a clutch to get the little advances needed in stop/go traffic. I also prefer the feeling of slowly coasting than limiting the forward movement in other situations. I'm sure given another day in traffic I could pinpoint another thing or two I prefer.

I think you are mistaking something being easier, for something being better for everyone, which is clearly not the case.

Ok, I'll give a little. I once ate a stir fry with chopsticks while driving an auto in traffic. That would have been a little tougher with a manual so given that situation I would take an auto

I'm a control freak. I prefer a clutch. And I prefer chopsticks to a plastic fork. Does this make me dumb, or you lazy? ;)

Fellow BC'er here , I would have gotten the manual but couldn't with the doublecab longbox sport 4x4 in BC , but now that I have the auto I love it and that don't make me dumb or lazy , I already was both of those things

I have 2 friends who just bought long box double cabs because they are sledders and need the space, but couldn't get manuals. Strange that it's not even an option.

Where abouts in BC are you? Any good offroad trails you know of? I have recently moved to Squamish and am interested in doing some offroading. Nothing too gnarly; just enough to be exciting without too much risk of damage.

I like driving manual myself, it all depends what you want. I am sure somebody else mentioned it but there is a TSB to fix the auto lag...
