About 20 years ago I was in a rear-end accident and I was at fault I was 19 borrowing my mom's car I was traveling about 40 and screwing around with the stereo so when I hit the woman in front of me it came as a surprise and before I realized what happened she had hit her brakes again after the initial impact therefore I hit her twice this normally happens when the rear-ending party is traveling at a high rate of speed and the initial contact happened before the driver of the rear car even knows they are in an accident. It was my first and last at fault accident I've been paying very close attention ever since I've been hit by several people since then. Sorry to hear about your loss sounds like hacking off the back end is an option. Find a fab shop that will quote the job. Make it nice....the insurance company will like the alternative to total loss as it saves them money. You may want to do it before the insurance company assesses the damage and claims it's totaled in the state of Washington if an insurance company reports a totaled vehicle it needs to be reinspected by the state patrol for safety before it can be tagged and licensed and put back on the road......( spoken into my Android if anyone feels the need to correct spelling errors and run on sentences I'm sure you can volunteer hours at a local educational facility where people may give 2

This one here looks really short. I will have to look at mine we have the same Body and Frame but it totally looks doable

As fun as it would be to deliver instant karma to someone who has wronged you, that's also the fastest way to end up in jail and have a permanent criminal record. Cooler heads always prevail.

Pull your parts, junk it, and use the buyback/replacement to get a new one.

Or as mentioned above, bob it, flatbed what is left. And treat her like she owes you some money

Glad you are okay. I got hit the same way in my xj a bunch of years ago just south of SF... saw the impact coming and pushed myself back into my seat and headrest... felt like maverick launching on alert-5

As cool as Bobbing it looks, I bought this truck as a long bed, as I use it for work. At best, I'd really like to keep the truck. It may just have been in my head yesterday, but it seemed to be idling funny. Since it was safe to drive, I still managed to pick up my Wife and payed closer attention to the trucks vitals. We'll see what happens.

I would take the insurance payout and then buy the truck back- Find a donor rear frame section- cut off the crumpled part of your frame- butt weld/ fish plate the donor portion of frame on each side and then get a rear frame plate kit and plate the rear section. Frame should be stronger than original and require much less work.

Here is a 2nd gen rear frame plate kit.
Made by TW member- jeffzOrz ($120 shipped!)
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2nd-gen-frame-box-plate-kit.405001/

"Un-tweaking your frame is remarkably easy to do it is extremely malleable, I had a couple of tweaks on mine and it literally took 5 mins with a crescent wrench to pry the lips and couple whacks with a hammer. So fitting the plates is actually that easy and since the plates were CAD off of a straight frame the plates give you a guide to get the frame back to where it should be."

Did you have anything in the hitch?

Volt must have slid under the bumper to have affected the hitch that much.

Nothing in the hitch, and I agree. The aftermath appeared to show that the front end of the chevy went under the truck. I don't even want to drive the truck right now because it pushed the rear of the bed forward enough, that any bump makes the rear tires rub the fender wells.

    I guess I should clarify.

Bobbing it as suggested would mean turning it into a designated off-roader. It'll never run, track, align, or drive the same again.

I get the need for use of a truck as a daily... that's why I said junk it and get a new one. I understand the love one can have for a vehicle, and as you said, in the end it's just a truck.

You have frame and body damage, highly unlikely you are not going to see a totaling out of the truck. Use this time to return it to stock so you are not effed by the insurance company for your parts. With how much these trucks hold value, you may pull a profit with the full buyout price :)

You'd be surprised with the type of drivers California gives licenses to.

I wouldn't mind a totalled car knowing the resale value of these trucks, but I still don't own it free and clear. All I want is for this to be as if it never happened.

If you didn't have that hitch it would have been way worse. The bed would be shoved further up into the cab. I live here in Cali too and always have the tow packages put on my trucks. It good rear armor against dickheads.
