So anybody have experience with a 2001 Tacoma being submerged in a creek? My son drive my truck into a creek front/passenger side was submerged which is where the aftermarket air intake is. Truck will start but will not continue running. No water in Oil. pulled the plugs and turned it over no water came out. Also no water in oil via the dip stick. Also changed the ECM still nothing but after replacing the ECM does spit a code of P1300 Which is igniter failure. But the truck will start just will not continue to run? Water did come out of exhaust when it did start and you can hear water in exhaust. Any helpful ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Pictures of how deep it was submerged?

The truck crank, runs, then shut off? Or just crank?

I’m guessing the Crank sensor or wiring is soaked. How long has it been out of the water?

    02hilux,

It was in about 2 feet of water just the passenger side. Also yes it will start and run and when you accelerate or not it dies. It has been out of the water for almost 2 weeks. Bought an ECM from salvage place because some of the components looked corroded put it in last night and nothing changed but the codes when scanned. Now showing P1300.

The symptom almost sounds like a bad MAF. But it can also be a no IGF signal to the ECM and check your ground wires in the engine bay.

    (Good News!)

    follow codes

The truck was fully submerged but ran without replacing any parts... ecu was damaged so it idled at 3k rpm but other than that... nothing

I forgot all my old toyota widom after working on and owning domestics honestly

Unplug pretty much every sensor not vital to the engine running

So maf, both o2 sensors, throttle position sensor, coolant temp sensor... I've done this for vehicles that start but don't run to get them to stay running... helps isolate the problem

You need to address the P1300 code, Toyota disables fuel when it doesn't get an ignition feedback (IGF) signal from the igniter which would explain the start-run-stall and P1300 code.

My hunch would be that water got in a connector and is pulling down the IGF circuit.

Buy a quality scanner that allows you to data stream each component and read faults of each module. I have a Launch. It scans all the modules for faults. They are expensive.

Change the maf change engine oil just to be safe igniter is on passenger side, expensive but change that. We need to know how far you got in the water but this sounds identical to my situation. Passenger side only. Get a can of deoxit.
If I can fix mine, you can too.
