    2007 Tacoma brake problems…

Around 3 months ago I installed new rear shoes, springs and drums in my Tacoma. At the time the parts I ordered from RockAuto came separately and I ended up only getting one drum. With all new internal parts I put a new drum on the rear driver and put the old drum on the rear passenger.

Fast forward a month later the second drum came just in time when I had my truck brought in for new tie rods. I had the mechanic put on the new drum and didn’t think much of it.

Next day I started my truck and put it in drive and the truck wanted to move but couldn’t and reverse didn’t help either. I switched through the gears and finally it moved. This continued at low speeds/initially starting the truck for about a week. One day on a camp trip the rear passenger completely sized and was dragging while the rear driver wheel was turning trying to move the truck forward. I opened up the drum and loosened the adjustor enough to limp it to the end of the road to have a tow.

I’ve since adjusted it but the problem still persists where some part of the brake is engaging and now allowing me to go forward (sometimes reverse) on occasion. I opened up the brakes today and found strange marks on my driver side drums. Any ideas? The photo of the truck on the jack is from the passenger side. Last photo is the side it was dragging on while trying to gas it

The left shoe looks like it has some marks on the top edge . If it's catching your drum it might cause it to jam. Are the shoes seated properly against the backing plate? It doesn't take much to lock up a drum. If it was me I would take it apart ,clean and re never seize everything ,hopefully that works. Good luck

My guess is the mechanic didn’t know the proper adjustment procedure and over tightened the adjusters.

That drum, I was gonna say scratches but it more looks like some liquid staining. Undercoating?
