yeah the later 2nd gen crowd with the different ECU connector has been pretty much limited to URD mac cal and the TRD flash.

also... yeah you are not making up for the lack of low end on the 3.5L v6 in the 3rd gens.

My buddy with a stock height stock tire size DCLB TRD OR 4x4 Auto 3rd gen, and me a 2013 TRD OR 4x4 auto DCSB with slightly larger tires, 2in lift, 150lbs of sliders etc. Lined up at 2 stop lights the other day and i just pulled away from him... i was rather shocked given the 40 or so HP deficit of the 2nd gen v6 to the 3rd gen. AND the fact that the 3rd gen TRD OR's have a better axle ratio (3.90's i believe). If we had of been able to take the drag race up to say 80 or so he would of probably pulled on me then... but the 0-60 I just pulled. Made me feel good about our old ass motor.

haha does my dad have a DCLB 4x4??? Neighbor friend across the street does tho, you know who im talking about.

Tho it would be interesting to see how pop's 3rd gen DCSB TRD OR prerunner stacks up... but he would never been down for drag racing antics.

And we gotta line up again one of these days. 35's and all that armor have to have some effect... tho regeared and the noise maker you have under the hood....

I dunno, I just knew he had a double cab 3rd gen.

I just need @OVTune to be ready for some 2nd gens with S/C so I can loan them the truck for the weekend lol. Can't be spending any more money on the truck. I'm broke lol

Probably when it's done. I'll have to make a formal challenge to the race bronco

While owning the 3rd Gen (auto), I would have gladly taken less MPG's for just more low end power. I was climbing a steep gravel hill at about 10,000 ft elev., one I've done many a times with a 2nd gen and other vehicles prior, and the 3rd Gen struggled in 2nd gear low. In fact, the RPM's kept dropping and it eventually shifted in the 1st. Happened a few times. I've also owned a 2nd Gen manual trans and auto prior to mines. 2nd gear low tackled it all.

Aside from the online TFL video of the tacoma's drag racing, it doesn't surprise me at all the 2nd Gen pulled away. The pairing of the motor and gearing (trans and FD) are just better with the 1st and 2nd Gens. A bunch of people were migrating to 4.88 gears in the 3rd Gens (some stock and some lifted w/larger tires) just to get more get-up and go.

What bothered me more than the power, was the stupid shifting and responsiveness of the shifting. Press the pedal to go and it bogs, then shifts and thinks, then shifts again to the right gear. Using the Selectable gears (+/- shifting), it would take considerable time for the truck to respond to shift inputs, say from 4th to 2nd. By the time it shifted into 2nd, it was already too late, I was pressing my brake. I tried to time it better, still hard. This, however, is more software related and, FWIW, I hope OVTune can address this with the 3rd Gens. It sounded like he did and also increased torque in the mid and high range.

To say the 3rd Gen isn't powerful isn't correct, however the power comes online close to 4K RPM. Reminded me of VTEC. In a car, maybe not so bad. My preference in a truck is to have more torque in the low RPM's for off-roading, hauling, and towing. Again, my preference.

I've also driven the manual 3rd Gen. I think it's leaps better than the Auto. Right now, I'd still pick the manual 2nd Gen over the 3rd.

This probably gonna make someone mad but I don't wanna read 12 pages. What is the current state of this endeavor? Do we still need photos of ECU's? This full time student has a killer summer job and I could be looking to burn some rubba.

We're patiently waiting on @OVTune to "finish" with the 3rd gens sometime soon. I truly don't know if we need to post about ECU's anymore, but you did remind me I need to do so, so yeah I guess you can lol
    Time will tell

@ $765, it's a bargain at this point. And the price may increase so yeah, get it when it comes, I will, hopefully, unless something major comes up on the truck:anonymous:
