It has been extremely difficult because of the size of the Tacoma "world." There are so many 3rd gens we've taken on that it has become so difficult to find time to do other things, which we are still trying to do though of course. But with how defiant the 3rd gen truck is, and the special care each one needs, it's more than a handful.
I am one person, and the 3rd gens are thousands upon thousands. I can't keep up with anything. I even contemplated temporarily closing down to catch everything up in the beginning of 2019. When we initially offered 4.0L tuning we weren't anywhere near the customer size as we are now for the 3rd gen. It's consumed us faster than anyone could of anticipated.
We are also trying to dwindle down on open developments or any unnecessary future development so we can continue with our editor, but this still, takes a lot of time.
The first step we have done has cut off all other platforms.

Recently we have come to the realization that there are are a few (at least 2) ECU versions that we are just unable to do, and we don't know what the problem is.
For anyone who has been waiting and has nothing or has the flashing issues please let us know I can send you a refund right away.

@OVTune Which ECU versions is it that you are unable to do? Im hoping I am not one of them. Ive emailed my Output Info for my flash kit, but havent heard back about a tune yet.

Fair question, at least with that knowledge we can cut bait and move on with our lives instead of waiting on nothing.

I was thinking one day I'd pick up a SC and have it OV Tuned, since it seems that the BD tune has issues and the TRD tune is hit and miss on where dealers still provide this.
For those with supported ECU's, what turn-around times have people seen in receiving their tune? It almost seems like this thread is going dead and communication from OV Tune to his customers is far and few between (2nd Gen in particular).

Aside from OV Tune, what are the recommended tuning options?

I must have missed it, but how do I check my ECU #?

You can get your ecu # with a obd2 reader and app on your phone

I think OV Tune is bogged down with 3rd Gen Tacoma stuff. Nothing new with 2nd gen stuff lately.

    Thanks for that.

I get it, the 3rd Gen needed the attention. I had one and sold it because it was just gutless on the low end and the Toyota reflashes did nothing. Since following this thread, while I've seen some positive reviews on the improvements, the attention to the customers is lacking and that concerns me as a potential buyer. Lots of talk on more attention being given, but it doesn't seem to follow through.

I can imagine the load he must have just with the 3rd Gen, but this thread should be updated (1st post) with current status and realistic expectations.
I also think a dyno for SC and N/A would go a long way to other interested buyers like myself.

I have the handheld for my 2nd gen and it has worked smoothly. I keep it on the 87 octane tune, my truck is stock with no supercharger.

Supercharged V2 Calibration received via email earlier today. Thanks, Mat!

It's installed and working (started the truck), but no drive time yet.

Is there a section that describes difference in tune versions? Popped my handheld in and noticed it had an updated the version and was curious what updates were made. I really like the version prior to this one so I am hesitant updating again. Current version I had seemed to hand more on shifts (sadly its an auto) but none the less. N/A - re-geared.

I'm in a supercharged MT with stock gears, so YMMV, but the email accompanying my new .dat file said little more than "V2 calibrations have throttle modifications for each gear."

Got it thanks. With my older handheld it updates directly so I have not been getting emails or new files. Would be nice if i could go back and play with older tunes to see the difference

Afaik it's not an update to the tune, just the software for the handheld. Any updates/to tunes would be sent directly as a new file iirc, but that may have changed.

That would make sense. I have been helping my buddy who has a 3rd gen and he keeps getting update files. I guess too good to be true and thought us 2nd gens were getting some updates.

Drove my buddies truck with the OV tune. 3rd gen Pro (not that means much in terms of powa) and I see what people mean in terms of 4.0 vs 3.5. Maybe not fair since I am also regeared but on the other hand he only has new tires and no armor and I have larger tires, suspension and lots of steal. Still felt my rig had more pep to it but it was comfortable. =)

A few friends have 3rd gens, I haven't driven them though to compare. One friend does have a 2013 access cab, a 2015 pro t4r and a 2017 pro Tacoma. He says he likes the 4.0 better in the Tacoma and the t4r is a dog.

Interesting... t4r different in its own right. Still a 4.0 maybe it’s the vvt or whatever the difference is. I took it for a spin after we updated his tune. I wouldn’t Mjnd some of the features bit def like the 4.0 better.
