    Hello

we are working on that ECU calibration, it's an 05 which is really old so it is taking us a little longer to get. We should have you updated as soon as possible.

There's got to be something wrong with your 2015. My 2006 has a lot more power than my 1st gen and gets the exact same fuel mileage.

And Texas will soon be another California so enjoy that.

My 07 V6 6spd is a tractor, love this thing.
For reference my other vehicles are a F150 3.5 EB w/385 hp and a Fusion sport w/ 325 hp. So I don't like anything lacking power.

Since getting this '15 I have listened to the light ticking of the fuel injectors, and the already mentioned power and poor fuel mileage, I think I might have come up with a pretty positive issue to share with others here that could be on the verge of the same thing.

I was at a local battery store and was getting some small watch batteries for my wife, while waiting, for all that; I saw a new to me this killer battery!

The specs and warranty of it was awesome, price was really killer too, very pricey :( ...

Nevertheless I bought one and told the wife, that her watch batteries and installation was more expensive than I expected :)

I cleaned all the battery lugs and tray and buckled it in. It was like oh my gosh! Now before anyone says it, yes I had forced my ecu to do a relearn of the running habbits with a reboot !

Now,, my truck never gave any indication of a bad and-or weak battery either. I just have all these intials with problems and mentally challenges I have always had. You know, ie. OCD and the likes, I just liked the whole idea of the big a$$ battery in my little truck. So, my wifes watch replacement just got 315 dollars and taxes and core charge added to her bill :)

I no longer hear any sign of my little light injectors ticking, I hate that kind of stuff and I have no problem hearing that sort of things in motors, since I have a long back ground of working with this sort of stuff.

Also noticed that my little truck on starting for lack of a better word, it lite up; way more than a meager crank up! By now I have this whole new revaluation about these issues...

Now since driving around for about 200 miles in town mostly, its got way better pep, get up and go! Not just a little either, it will get up and go. Still using the no alcohol fuel, again that OCD disease of mine.

Truck pulls hard up the on ramps around our loop, slips the tires way to easy, big :) all over my face!

No fuel mileage numbers just yet, but will be soon. Bottom line I really like what I see and feel.

Begs the question, have any of you guys ever had this come up? Make no mistake here this truck never failed to start. No hint of a weak battery... Obviously needing one though!!!

Hell, as well as it lites up and runs now, mpg is not as big an issure either :)

I still want to get one of these programers for my little truck, and plan too. I am just plotting my wifes next purchase, to acquire said programmer :) I am thinking at the moment her lap top may be in need of some new software :) most certainly she is going to be getting something!!!

All kidding aside you guys ever see, hear of something as simple as this and yet so hard to determine???

    I hope I didn't jinx ya'all. California's policies suck ___.

I made it to page 6 of your turbo thread so I've got a ways to go on it. I'm super jealous of your engine mods, lol. Someday I'll get it there.

How did you force your ecu to do a relearn? There is no such thing as a magical new battery to improve vehicle driving and performance. Whoever owned your truck prior to you, either really drove it conservatively and never went past 1/2 throttle with it, or never did any maintenance like air filter, plugs etc. Afaik all Tacomas are "50 state legal" in regards to emissions so your 2015 is no different than John Doe's Tacoma in Indiana, Montana or any of the 50 US states. Most manufacturers apply California emissions standards to their vehicles to keep it simple and less confusing if a person can or cannot register their vehicle in California when they bought it from Oklahoma or Nebraska.

The light ticking of the engine would be the pcv valve cycling, and not your injectors. Often referred to as the taco tick. Every Tacoma I have been around makes that noise, some more pronounced than others. There are methods to quiet it down, but not eliminate it completely. If you want to hear injection noise, stand next to a 3rd gen v6 in an ally way during a cleaning cycle. It's almost diesel sounding.

I have been told that there are some vehicles that are new year models that are not compliant in California, no different than some pistols are not compliant in California.
Not that far of a reach, understand your idea about simplicity but what's simple in America anymore :)

Secondly, my ticking noise of my injectors has gone away I know it's not that little valve!
Just went and filled up the truck just a little over three hundred miles in and around town around the loop not driving really nice because of the better performance I've smoked up the on ramps and messed around with accelerations and stuff way more than normal and I got 18 and change miles per gallon and that's the best the trucks ever got highway or otherwise!!!

Now, to relearn the ECM you lift the ground cable off the battery and let it sit for a little while, no more than a minute, dumps everything forces the ECM into a relearn of your driving habits basically it's not uncommon my Dodge diesel does the same thing. The Fords also goes through a relearning of your driving habits, if you do this to them as well.

The ECM learns from our driving styles also as sensors dictate what it takes to keep the motors running well and as their mapped to run and they get in the habit of what we're doing driving in traffic and all that kind of stuff.

Probably why my truck has been so insistent on continuing to crank with a poor battery at best is the ECM knows what it's supposed to do and it has just kept adjusting things to keep it cranking.

Now, that I have a new battery installed my ECM is going through a new learning process of how it was originally mapped and was expected to run.

I can't wait to get out on the road with a little highway driving to see what my mileage is now!!!

The 18 and change mpg around town, driving with heavy foot, when usually that was 15 to 16 mpg! This answers some of the questions of why I couldn't make it change no matter what I did, tires, tire sizes, air filters, plugs, oil changes ,new fluids throughout the vehicle.

Now with a battery change my vehicle has also changed, much improved change!!!

Disconnecting your old battery, waiting 2 minutes, then reconnecting it would have had the same result!

Well, yes sir that is correct but that is not what's helped improve the truck the new battery did,I did unhook the trucks oem battery, when I first got it and I've done that multiple times to get the resolution back and the full fuel map, thinking that had something to do with my issues, it was not?

We're not remapping the ECM's EPA approved fuel map; we getting the resolution which let's say that's one to 100 or maybe let's say it's voltage 0 to 5 volts and what we get used to driving around town we may never see more than 2 and 1/2 volts or maybe 25% in the 0 to 100 scale now when we reboot the learning curve of the ECM you give it the chance to get the full resolution back to work with if needed...

Lets, put this in other words, we have a big diesel truck and we've been carrying 10,000 lb loads from east to west coast for the last 3 years and all of a sudden we get an 80,000 lb full load and we're coming West, and not only more weight, but we have w days to get there...

All of a sudden we start to feel the lack of throttle, only run 70mph across I-10,it speed limit 80mph if you can. Then all of a sudden we hit the great divide ,and were already a day later and many dollars short, since we have had the fuel map hogged out trying to run like we knew it could! now, we can't get over the great divide because we have no where enough power either...

The resolution to the full fuel map it's only ever seen 50 -60% the last 3 years and 250,000 miles!!! That's how rebooting the ECM to make it real learn the full resolution of like your throttle your timing and a host of other sensors, air flow, exhaust temps yada yada yada!

With new vehicles you have a break in. So once you get past break-in it's wise to pull the battery lead kill it make it re- learn again and you get all of your benefits back with full resolution of everything, without all the special things that are for breakin only...

Bottom line here the new battery was way past due on my truck!

But how does a new battery “re-boot” the ECM? The truck doesn’t care about the age or type of battery. The computer is either supplied voltage to retain data or the voltage is interrupted and the computer loses whatever it has learned into flash memory.

Just the mirror installing the new battery on the vehicle puts the ECM into a relearn because you've killed the power.

and yes if the batteries got a bad cell in it bad enough that it's making the alternator pull like crazy or whatever runs on 9 or 10 volts instead of 13 and 1/2 to 14 volts it's going to make a lot of things different

    @OVTune

I’m ready to buy a tune. The links in post 1 are dead.

I don’t need a handheld, I just want to dump a 91 tune into it with a laptop or whatever is the cheapest possible option.

Do you have a link to info on the latest 91 tune and what improvements have been built in?

With all due respect, what you're feeling has nothing to do with a new battery. It has everything to do with disconnecting power while you removed and replaced the old one, along with what's likely some placebo effect.

I’m wondering if these updates are included in the current (V3?) tune available on the website right now.
