So @OVTune is there any way to get around starting with the TRD flash? Is part of the unlockable potential the ability to just write expanded tables onto the ecu instead of editing the ones already there?

Yes, it will, undoubtedly. It just cannot handle the power that the single VVT-I 1GR can. Just making sure you are aware. It has weaker internals, and less counterweights on the crank shaft.

Ahh maybe I was a little confused when I read your email.
The handheld tuner does not offer self or local dyno tuning ability.
The tuning software we will release does have ability for you to edit the tune, or your local tuner, etc.

But the other things like TMPS, neither can do.

You mean starting with one on a non supercharged Tacoma?

Or you mean tuning a SC Tacoma and using the NA tune to develop it instead of using a TRD file as a base.

When we develop our boost / SC tunes we will take the OEM TRD tune and modify it for all trucks that we can, because the code and tables are modified in a way to make it boost friendly to begin with.

Kind of like tuning a WRX ecu for most boost vs a impress for boost. One ecu already "expects" boost.

Technically we can do it on a TRD version ecu or a NA ecu. The bonus on the TRD is just the extended load ranges.

Being that the TRD flashes in larger injector data (size, and dead times), I imagine that this means you, OVTune, will be able to do so as well?

For say a s/c owner whom wants to add more boost, but they need to upgrade their injectors to meet the new hp fuel requirements.

Notation needed, but I believe the TRD Denso injectors are around 425ccm.

I mean I have the garbage Magnuson tune, not the TRD flash. If you can overwrite the entire tune and not just edit the existing tables then I don't have to drop $800 on a new stock ecu to get back to a usable starting point. If you are only able to edit the existing tables (assuming my tune didn't expand them like the TRD one did) then I'm still SOL.

I can do anything you want to your existing ecu. Flash a TRD, flash a custom tune from me, flash a NA tune, flash a camry tune ( truck won' run haha).

The nice part about these older ecus is I can put literally anything I want on it that has a matching processor. I could put a scion TC tune on the ecu if I wanted to. It wouldn' run but the processor accepts the code.

Yes but there is a limit to injector size because of available byte storage / data type. 8 bit data limit is 0 to 255. So if a "800cc" injector = calculated bit of 299, it can't be done.

However, Toyota was nice enough to make very nice 3D tables that directly multiply the injection amounts for RPM and load, so I can add or reduce fuel anywhere technically.

So to be unnecessarily repetitive, even if I had the stock NA tune you could flash your tune with the expanded load ranges? Cause if that's the case then shut up and take my money.

    Correct.

I' telling you 4.0 owners are in for a treat. The code, logic, algorithms are all identical to that of Lexus 06-17 ecus, which I've been working on for almost 2 years.

    Just like the 5.7 Tundra.

Is it still necessary to ship my ecu to you with the handheld tuner option?

@OVTune i thought you had started a list like 4 pages back for who wants what. I also don't think you had an expected date for self tune?

We have a majority of the 09+ files now. only ECUs we still need are the old stuff, 05-08

depends. Impossible to know until we know the CAL ID. Most likely not (but if you want the magnuson tune removed you have to send it to us)

If I didn't use it daily, I would send it. Someone has to have a metal cased one to send.

From what I've gotten, that money will be there's for a while my friend. That's why I'm asking so many questions and been waiting quite some time.

If waiting means I save $1500 I'm alright with that. My truck runs alright currently. Just could be a bit better.

SC w/urd pulley, afe cai, URD LT's, TRD cat back. 375hp. Custom logos, tonneau cover, westin bar with piaa lights, aero force gauges, custom front air dam, Westin step bars.
I'm not expecting 50 additional hp with just your tune, but I'm planning on dropping pulley size from the current 2.85 to the 2.7 or a 2.6 and hopefully lean out the pig rich 9.5 at wot as well as improve the shift points, eliminate the speed limiter, and clean up the fuel trims for better drivability and mpg and if possible get rid of the buzzer with the seat belts and key in ignition and hopefully once and for all lose the cel from the URD headers!!! I'm on a TRD flash.
When is this product going to be available? I'm very interested.

As a side note...I have a TRD flashed ecm out of my former 2010 4x4 dbl cab taco I removed when I pulled the trd sc and put a stock ecm back in it.

I don't believe the price will increase and I believe he stated a page before there was going to be a black Friday sale for the handhelds. In my mind, waiting a little longer would have been better. But you do you, I'll just wait longer for the self tune.
