Handheld tuner - plug and play option that allows you to flash our tunes, that we develop for the engine and transmission. The handheld will hold 5 tunes, with different settings (like 87 octane tune, 91 octane tune, towing tune, etc)

Handheld tuner "SC" - Exact as above but tunes developed specifically for the TRD Supercharger

DIY Tuning Kit - Software + OBDII USB Cable that allows you to open your stock ECU file, edit maps as you wish, and tune the car yourself. Adjust your own ignition, or fueling, datalog the results, make changes you need. Comes with your OEM tune and we can provide a few helpful base files.

DIY Tuning Kit - Custom tune option - not yet listed, but we can use the same kit and make the tune for you.

The big difference here is the handheld comes with our Plug and Play style tunes for the engine. No additional work necessary, no datalogging, no back and forth.

DIY option is not a handheld.

When you say TRD supercharger, you also mean Magnuson SC as well correct?

If it matters the website only lists the handheld tuner, not one for NA and one for SC, but I imagine that'll be sorted when you contact us for details and all that.

They're the exact same hardware so yes.

Doesn't matter right now. As part of our intro offer SC and NA folks get the same special deal. In the future there will be a dedicated SC handheld but it will cost more (there is a lot more work involved in the tune)

This probably goes without saying, but people that are thinking about the DIY Tune kit......i sure hope you guys know what you are getting into. Because if you don't, you can possibly turn your 1GRFE into a boat anchor and will be shopping for a spare replacement motor....or have to rebuild your current one.

Look at it this way... the OVT handheld tuner is like buying on off-the-rack suit from Men's Warehouse. The suit will fit you ok and come pretty darn close to your exact inseam, length, chest and neck width......but it won't be an exact perfect fit. You be pretty happy with they way you look and you'll walk out of the store with your new threads in about 30-45mins.

The OVT DIY kit is like buying a custom tailored suit from the designer. The tailor will take all of your measurements, chalk it up, and then sew up your suit to your exact specification. Be prepared to stand and sit for hours as the tailor sews the suit so it fits your own body. In the end, Your clothes will look like Brad Pitt walking at the Oscars.

The difference between the two (handheld/DIY) is pretty substantial. The handheld should have your truck running better than stock in less than an hour. The DIY kit will have your truck running it's very best if you optimize the tune on a dyno.....and then possibly retweak the tune again while finalizing road testing. Custom tuning for optimal performance will require a LOT of man hours. And dyno time around where i live is around $100/hr.

Sorry if I'm preaching to the choir, but I've read some questionable replies that's making me shake my head. If you have a SC with the TRD reflash and want to use the DIY kit, it's not going to be "press this button and poof....AFRs are all perfect now".

Buyers: Please be cautious and know what you are doing with EFI if you go with the DIY kit. If not and you still want the DIY kit, then leave the tuning to a professional and reputable dyno tuning shop.

@OVTune : if anything i said was inaccurate, please correct what i wrote.

Disclaimer: I've purchased the OVT handheld unit for my truck. And my experience with DIY kit was well over a decade ago with SDS EFI, APEXi PowerFC, TecII, and more recently Megasquirt.

thanks. I ordered it... Now I have to figure out what I ordered... :)

I panicked when I saw 10 left... I am just hoping for more response/seat of pants improvements in feel. I would guess since I have a pretty much stock 2011 (TRD exhaust is it) that there is not much to do in terms of HP improvements... but with the throttle response and shift point adjustments I think it could "feel faster".

Am I on the right track with how I think it works (sorry, I paid much more attention to the 3rd gen thread on this as it was first to show up).

    @OVTune

    Before I order:
If mods change on the truck, would you be able to send us a new tune for the handheld?
I'm going to be supercharging the truck, but I'd like to optimize what I've got on the truck already.
I know you said it holds 5 tunes.
And on the flip side, if a tune seems to not mesh well with the truck, I'd imagine that we could somehow log the info, send it back to you, and you could make some adjustments?
    I think that's how I understand it.

    Thanks!

Hang on. There is two versions available? I want one where I can tune the parameters myself. Which one is that one? Count me in if you have where you can do that.
