I’m going to say it because we’re all thinking it. These trucks have a shit power train for high elevation mountainous highways. :crapstorm:

Get something with a turbo at that elevation. Another vote for a Subaru here.

Get some type of a Subaru with a turbo. Absolute best vehicle for your conditions.

Yup my sentiments exactly about the CCT. The MT Subi is where it’s at :rasta:

I wouldn't recommend a SC just because it can't compensate for elevation change. You'll be overboosting if you go to sea level.

No you won’t, not with a properly designed aftermarket or any factory built supercharged vehicle.

It runs the same boost, just like a turbo does, they go to a certain preset lbs of boost, unless using a boost controller, which stock cars don't have.

Apparently some people replying in this thread have never driven NA above 10K feet. It sucks. Who was talking about a dtereo for fucks sake? Elevation, snow, shit weather. Well I guess he can listen to some tunes while he's stuck.

Your boost is rpm dependent. That same speed is going to build more pressure at sea level than it will at 10k. I've never heard of anything regulating pressure on a SC, only rpm. Hence why you don't hit peak boost until redline.

I’ve been up and through Breckinridge for a week in last nov. At the time I had a 18 off road. It handled fine. However a 4Runner or Jeep jlu might be what would fit you better.

The Tacoma (part time 4x4) is a no go as a daily driver for you... Sabaru Outback (AWD) will best fit your articulated needs.

I live at 7000' in Colorado, the Tacoma is the highest HP vehicle I have ever owned. No worries about holding Smode and 5500rpms up any mtn pass. Easy peasy, done.

I live at 9600’.Get a turbo car unless you enjoy going really slow. My Tacoma sucks at elevation.

    Yeah.
I just went on a trip with a couple of 1st gens and a couple of 2nd gens. I was fully loaded down with camping gear and supplies, as were the other vehicles. My 3rd gen had plenty of power to deal with high mountain passes, and I always got 2 mpg or more better than the 2nd gens. So, I don't necessarily agree that the 3rd gen Tacoma has a crap powertrain for high altitude. I did similar road in a 2nd gen, and there's really not much difference. The 1st gens have a smaller tank, so they needed to fill up quite a bit more.

Anyway, the 4Runner JBL system in my wife's 4Runner sounds really good. From reports on here, not sure the Tacoma JBL is quite as good. Without a cap, sleeping in a Tacoma might be a bit iffy. I'm thinking a 4Runner would be a good choice for your needs.

I've had my Taco in the Rockies a few times. It's just fine for the elevation... hell, I got better gas mileage driving around the enchanted circle than I did here in Louisiana. I've had the Taco in Icy weather and it did fine.

I think it will meet your needs, but it's a matter of what you need. I need a truck bed that I can throw dirty stuff in (I have a camper shell). A 4runner just wouldn't work for me.

I have a Subaru as well. It's a great car, but given the choice, I'd take the Taco. It's just more capable.

Quite hilarious that Subaru spews all this BS about being environmentally friendly and caring so much about the world yet they sell shit tons of models that burn oil. Wait sorry, "consume" oil as they call it. My friend has a 16 Impreza and needs to put 1 qt of oil in her ride every month. Shes complained but just gets the "consumption" talk at the dealer. Still nothing else wrong reliability-wise but pretty shiesty of Subaru and their sappy ass commercials.

All cars burn oil to some capacity, I think their focus is on emissions. So while their engines burn more oil than the average car they consistent have lower emissions that vehicles that don't. IDK though.
