    Hi,

I've been scouring through the posts reading about Tacomas as I'm trying to decide between a Tacoma or an F150.

I don't need a fancy vehicle --- a base model suffices. It's not for work or towing so engine size isn't important (tho I don't want the four cylinder Tacoma).

What I've discovered is that although the Tacoma costs more, a base Tacoma is similar to an F150 with the medium-priced accessory package.

I've found a dealership that has what I'm looking for and its been there a for a few months.

Talking with the salesman, he's gone down to $42500 including taxes and fees (approximately, as I forget the amount to the exact dollar but this is close enough).

So here's my question --- would you jump at that price?

    Thanks for any advice!

You need to give more details on what you're looking at. I bought my truck. TRD sport double cab long bed 4x4 with the premium tech package and jbl. Price before taxes was $36900. Depending on your taxes and fees that give you some comparisons. What state are you in?

You may have to elaborate more on model and options. If this is a SR, hell no, run now. If its a Limited, maybe not terrible.

It's just a base four door SR5 and I'm in Canada. MSRP up here is $37,020 plus fees and all taxes. Keep in mind taxes are 13%.

I'm not going to be much help to you. The exchange rate and taxes are going to be different.

I was assuming that most posters here are likely from the U.S. but I'm guessing there must be a few Canadians here. ;)

We went to anither dealership and the salesman was all keen on selling us one and he'd beat any price! Except this one. Lol.

I'm just wondering whether I should jump on this now as opposed to waiting and seeing if it stays in the lot (where I can hopefully have even more leverage) or if it's just an average deal.

Yeah, pretty close to that. Basically he's eaten the admin fees and delivery charge.

And this is before talking to the sales mgr. He said after this any negotiations go to him/her.

I can't help but think that a vehicle that has been sitting in a lot for a few months is costing them money. I'm hoping they realize that my point of them having a base vehicle (for a while) and me, being a guy who _wants_ a base vehicle, makes me the ideal customer for them.

But I'd still like it a bit cheaper as originally I was actually only planning on spending $35G max (hence the F150 thought).

Now I know I'm not going to get it for that but I'm hoping for a bit less than where we're at now if they're motivated to sell.

Well, I passed on that deal and instead grabbed a four door Sport with a manual transmission (which is what I really wanted) for $42,800 (Canadian) all in.

I'll admit that I'm surprised that the salesman from last week hasn't called to see if he could get me to buy his truck. Thankfully he didn't as I'm sure that tomorrow, when I pick up my truck, I'll prefer it to what I test drove at that dealership.

I can't believe a 2016 mid level costs this much, heck, my auto 2015 4x4 DCSB TRD off road with tow package/hitch was 31,500, 33,500 OTD with all fees and taxes. Granted I had to fight for that price but still, nine grand more?.............sheesh.

Our dollar has tanked the last 18 months or so. When the Canadian buck equals .76 U.S....prices go up in Canada.
