Hi - Like many taco owners outside of the 20 state LSC, I am screwed on the frame rust issue for 2005-09 Tacomas and corporate has said I am SOL. But I am not lying down on this. I created a Twitter handle @TacomaFrameRust and will be using the #makeitright to get @Toyota to address this known problem for ALL Tacoma owners.

They know that Dana Holding Corp supplied inferior metal resulting in Toyota winning a $25 million lawsuit against Dana Holding. They need to fix EVERY Tacoma with these frame issues. Let your voice be heard. There is strength in numbers.

Make a youtube video of yourself beating the truck up then light the bitch on fire. All while saying fuck you toyota!!! Let it go viral, then sit back and wait for toyota to send you a new tacoma.

^^ I wouldn't be surprised if that worked. They would scramble like roaches when the lights are turned on.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
They should be honoring the frame replacement on the truck if it is registered in one of the salt belt states. Where do you live? Melbourne Beach sounds like Florida so if that's the case you are screwed.

Yes - as mentioned since I am outside of the 20 states involved in the Limited Service Campaign, I am screwed. And so are many others. This is wrong and I am pissed. So I am going to at least try and do something about it.

I have already talked to corporate and got the same corporate BS on the phone. I will be sending them an email every day. They know that these frames are subject to rust issues. They should do the right thing and fix them all. I don't care how - weld a damn plate over it - whatever - just #makeitright.

Has your truck always been a Florida truck? That's crazy it would rust like that in a place that never get snow.

I live by salt water as well. There is no reason why toyota can't do the same for trucks that live by the golf of mexico

Yes - outside of a three week trip to Cape Cod, always been here. I run it through the wash nearly every week to rinse off. Outside of the frame you would never know that it is nearly a 10 year old truck. The rust is happening in the same exact spots as other in the 20 LSC states.

Exactly. They contracted out to a company that used sub standard material, sued them and received money for it. They should fix all Tacomas - simple as that.

I got my letter for the application of the CRC compound yesterday and after reading through it, I got the impression that the frame inspections will expand into the other areas as soon as toyota gets their shit together.
It's too bad that I spent alot of time and money over the years to keep my frame in good condition. Should have let that bitch rot.

That would be great! There is a class action lawsuit filed in Arkansas - http://legalnewsline.com/issues/cla...usty-toyota-tacomas-are-essentially-worthless

While it makes sense that there are some logistics that need to be in place - after all Toyota cannot replace every bad frame in the US at once - they settled with Dana Holding Corp 3 years ago and that is plenty of time for Toyota to get their shit together.

I love my truck and Toyota makes one of the best truck engines out there. The switch to a composite bed was an insanely great idea. But what good is the truck if the frame it is mounted to falls apart?

If they do the right thing, I will remain a customer for life. If not, I will move on. On top of my Tacoma I also own a 2013 4Runner (our second 4Runner) so I have put some faith in this brand which has been hit hard in recent years. Toyota needs to own it and if they do 100%, people will notice.

I'd like to know when the frame issue / was / is fixed?? With my 2nd generation 2012 I assumed it was fixed. But with all the info floating around I'm beginning to think that maybe it hasn't been fixed yet??? If nothing else - to put my curiosity at rest ....

I think you are safe with a 2012 but others may have better info than me on that. I am a 2005 and there was a big issue for 2005-08/09 Tacomas.

Reportedly 2009 saw a change in frame suppliers and the rot issue is resolved, but who knows, really? Only time can tell. At least if the new trucks rot out within 15 years, Toyota has pretty much established through precedent what they will do for owners. Unless you live in Florida, apparently.

Nope. Pulling that from a overview of a lot of other 2ng gen frame rust threads.

Hence my use of the term "reportedly". :D

From the article I linked to -

'Dana substantially divested its Structural Products business, including the plants that manufactured the Tacoma frames, in March 2010.'
