Yes it's in other threads but when you Google it you still find a few who claim to be having rust problems on 2009s. I haven't seen anything from '10 or later yet but those trucks aren't too old and it might just not have shown up yet. The other side of it, of course, is that there are tens of thousands of any given year Tacoma out there, so it's hard to draw conclusions based on random internet hits in the absence of a clear trend. (I would call what I have seen about 2009 "random" but certainly the problem is well documented in earlier years.)

I am going to treat this truck (mine is a 2014) as I have every other vehicle I have owned, with as frequent as possible washing in winter but no other steps such as under-coating because I am afraid that those things might actually make things worse and could muddy the water if a warranty issue ever did come up.

There could be some 2009's that have bad frames - depending on when they switched over to the 'different' manufacturer and where the trucks were produced. They were producing 2009 trucks in 2008..... Only the VIN will know whether a 2009 would qualify and why it's random.

    That's my guess anyway.

Only time will tell if the new frames will stand up to time. Who built the frames on the 80's & 90's trucks? I think the poor economy in past years sucked the quality right out of all manufacturing. It's a damn shame!

I wondered as well whether the affected 2009s could have been early model-year with old-design frames.

I sent an email to the COO and not have the executive offices trying to contact me. I know that there are others with Tacomas outside of the 20 LSC states with the same issues. Been busy last week with a new addition to the family but back in the saddle and hoping Toyota will make it right. Going to post some new pictures soon from a better angle.

Making some traction here. I have contacted the law firm that has filed a class action suit in Arkansas. They are ready to do the same here in Florida and I would be the lead on this.

They basically would like to get one person from each state to be the plaintiff in a class action suit to help put the pressure on Toyota to make this right. As mentioned I am leading the charge in Florida.

This affects 2005-09 Tacomas only. If you would like to take the lead on a class action suit in your state then let me know and I can pass along contact info. They are in the process of submitting claims in other additional states - he mentioned they are ready to file in Arizona and California.

I will have more info Wednesday after we speak again.

Please let me know if you want to get involved. The more people that speak up, the more pressure on Toyota to #makeitright
