New to this site.I am very interested in buying a 2005 or newer Tacoma crew cab. I have read that there may be some rust issues with the frames again. at least on the early 2nd generation taco's. If so, does anyone know what year they corrected this problem? If they have?

There hasn't been a 'fix'. Avoid the 05s being the first run and all. Get one with a clean frame and be sure to clean it if you're in a salty wintery area.

Totaled but still alive! Frame 2.0, Fog lights anytime, Seatbelt reminder delete, Secondary air filter delete, LED bed lights, Running boards, 2017 Rims, Ultra gauge, Cup holder/consol/glove compartment lights, Interior LED conversion, Blue Sea aux. fuse panel, fuse panel mounting plate by Yotamac, ProEFX heated towing mirrors, LED engine bay lights, Redline Quicklift Elite hood struts, Wet Okole Heated Seat Covers,m, Rear bumper 2.0, Decal free visors, Washable cabin air filter, Overhead consol auto dimming override switch, BulletProof Fabricating Skid plate, 2lo module.
My 06 is doing OK. Although factory trailer hitch is rusting much worse than the frame, and it was painted while the frame was not:eek:

Thanks for the replys . Have been wanting one for several years. Now that I'm ready to take the plunge ,I start reading of some more trouble. Was really bummed out about it. Really isn't any other truck out there that trips my trigger like a taco.

If you want one, go for it. Dont let the frame thing scare you. Just be vigilant when you're looking and check the frames. I think of the frame as I do the rest of the exterior of the truck. I wash and wax the rest of the truck to keep it clean and protect it from the elements. Same with the frame. I spray it down a few times through the winter to get the salt and grime off.

I am more worried about how it was taken care of by previous owner. seeing how I can't afford a new one. Thanks for the input.

    Working on it now....UNDER CONSTRUCTION
If steel is exposed to salt water it will corrode. If you drive your vehicle into the ocean it will suffer with severe rust. This generally is no different if you live in northern states that treat the roads during the winter. Solution. Keep the undercarriage extremely clean, touch-up frame components when necessary, and cross your fingers. My solution. I live in Florida.

There was a recall; I got the frame coated on my 02 which didn't didn't have enough rust to replace it. Dealer coordinated it with a third party shop.
Recall was only for approx Virginia and further north owners, so if you get an 05 from that area (Ohio would qualify) it should be recoated from the recall. If not, it may be fine if it lived in southern areas.

2005+ tacomas are second gens. There isn't a recall for these. Some people are getting it fixed, and some aren't.
