Curious about your other issues (besides the strawberry milkshake). That is the big one, but only up to 2010 models.

Other issues; Bank 1 cat failed at around 100k & bank 2 went around 136k, both engine bay sensors (unsure which one specifically) at least 2 times. When I did plugs at 100k, I reluctantly did not replace the coil's, and they started to go shortly after that. I'm sure there were other issues but I can't remember every single one.
The bottom line is the engine and transmission we're both solid, but I did not want to spend the rest of it days chasing after all of the things that would definitely increase in time.
When I sold it last year, value was $6 - 7K, with Tacoma equivalent around double that value, that is my local area here in Orange County California.
Resale Value could also be the primary reason to purchase one over the other.

I’m pretty sure a lot has changed in both trucks since 2006. :D Getting 17 years out of the truck even with those problems is still pretty damn good.

I agree, Technology has certainly changed since back then, but I can't be sure the quality has. I did have a good stretch, in the middle part of ownership, that was mostly trouble free.

I agree & welcome to Tacoma World today

I can’t speak to Frontier longevity/reliability, but I do know that nearly half of all Nissan sales are fleet, which is an unsustainable business plan for them. For actual dealership customers (56% of sales) that directly craps on resale value for any Nissan they drive off the lot, including Frontiers.

The last Frontier I drove (rented, of course) seemed like a decent truck. But if someone were to buy one, you’d need to negotiate some serious discounts to protect yourself from the inevitable depreciation hit that Nissan’s current and very desperate sales strategy creates.

Someone scraped a dent into my door in the parking lot yesterday or the day before — or I did it myself in the garage and didn’t feel it — and my initial reaction was to run a finger in the groove pregame style, shrug my shoulders, and then say out loud to myself, “still better than the Shar Pei fourth gen.” Some creases cannot be crossed.

As a long time Nissan truck/Infiniti owner, the majority of Nissan's lineup is garbage, and has been since the early 2000's. Ghosn+CVT ruined their cars.

The RWD-based vehicles have been very good.

The bad rep sinks their value across the line.

As for the other guy needing cats at 100-136k.... That doesn't seem terrible to me.

We had a Mazda 5 that puked 2 ignition coils, flooded and destroyed the cat at under 90k miles.

Frontier is a terrible off-roader. Its traction control acts strange when climbing hills and losing traction.

My mom had a 2001 manual Nissan Sentra and it was an awesome car. I snuck it out a few times and beat the fuck out of it. No tachometer on that thing so was fun haha.

But yeah anything past that is garbage. Frontiers are cool though.

Coming soon to Ford, GM, and FCA/Stellantis? Might need to rethink my position in Ford stock....sitting on a good amount of it.

I saw TFL's video with this Frontier Hardbody. I love the retro look of the truck, but unfortunately the interior looks retro as well. It's got the good ol' V6, but it's $46.5K

That hardbody kit for 9k kills any sort of reason to buy a frontier.

I agree with this. The only Nissan I would buy is of the rear wheel drive variety. Their CVT's are garbage and most of their rear wheel drive stuff is older tech that they have actually had time to improve on, namely their body on frame truck platforms. They're not Toyotas, but they are a pretty safe bet if the price is right. Downside is the older used ones can be tough to find parts for like the Xterra and some things can be a real pain to work on.

I feel like you are basing this on the recent Truck King Youtube video. There were a lot of problems in that video that were not the fault of the truck really. First was the driving and second, which was the biggest reason. was a set of tires that was nowhere near the correct kind for what the situation called for. A different set of tires, and they would have had no problems.
