Yeah, that’s a lot of money just for nostalgia. The Pro4X is the way to go.

With new Taco prices being stupid expensive, what is your 2nd choice of vehicle if you had to purchase one tomorrow? Why?

If I had to purchase quickly my first choice would be the Frontier Pro4X. Second choice would be a Gladiator Rubicon or Mojave. Both are readily available at dealers and being sold under MSRP.

I had the Nissan Titan Truck. The only vehicle I have ever owned that I traded it in within a year. I ended up trading it in for a 2018 Tacoma TRD Off Road. The Truck started giving me problems with the AC, I have had Heat Stoke 2 times in my life, & I live in Texas. The first summer it was over 105 degrees when I got into the truck, I started it turned on the AC for the very first time, and I got as far as the end of my driveway, and the AC quit working. I promptly took my truck to the Trophy Nissan Dealer in Mesquite Texas, and asked them to fix the AC. It took a week for the Dealership to come back with the answer, "We got it to repeat the issue, but we have no clue what is causing the problem." The Service man gave my keys back and said as soon as we figure out how to fix it we will give you a call. I spent the entire summer with it on and off working, I got it it later in the summer with a week of over 100 degrees facing me, and I had it quit again, as I drove out of the driveway. I took it back to the Trophy Nissan Dealer in Mesquite Texas, and asked them to fix the AC. It took another week for the Dealership to come back with the same damned answer, "We got it to repeat the issue, but we have no clue what is causing the problem." I posted on the forum, and a Nissan Tech from San Antonio said he knew how to fix it and that I needed to drive 300 miles to San Antonio to get him to fix it. He also suggested when it happens again, I should turn it to full heat, leave it there for a few minutes and then turn it back to AC to get it to work again. I spent the next 2 month playing that game. I finally took it back to Trophy Nissan for a 3rd time, and surprise surprise, surprise, I got the same damned answer. Nissan bragged how wonderful the truck was and that it had a 100,000 mile warranty, and I asked what good is the 100,000 mile warranty, if every time I take it in to get fixed your give me the same answer, "We got it to repeat the issue, but we have no clue what is causing the problem and don't know how to fix it."

My dad drove his 2016 Frontier for over 300k miles!

It's still a reliable truck that's a lot cheaper used than any used Toyota.

Sadly, the catalytic converters started giving him trouble, and the truck was essentially totaled after a shop sent him a quote to replace all 4... and then he bought a new 4runner.

If Tacoma did not offer MT, I would be shooting the shit at frontier forums.

    Pro4x is a niiiice truck.

At Taco prices, we’re talking full size truck categories. My bro and I had Nissan Hardbody’s and they were reliable AF… My close friend has an Xterra and has had on going issues with the AC. I don’t know how reliable the Gladiators truly are but they look awfully nice, even the entry level ones.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.

For the price et al Id probably go with the nissan for 24. I did seriously look at the frontiers in 23 models. None of these trucks are going to have great spacious back seats, but the few times I have my niece and mother in the back seat I know Id hear non stop complaining about the nissans back seat. That and if I ever decided to abandon ship, I figured I could hold more value in the tacoma. Especially with it being the last model 3rd gen I figure people will still be interested some years down the line.

That being said, nissans warranty really is gang busters.

Are the Frontiers back seats smaller than the Tacoma? They seemed pretty similar on the ones I rented. I didn’t measure though.

    Oh for sure!

Although I was referring to the 23 PRO4x MT flavour. I’m not fond of 24 MY to be honest. DI only engine and no MT option. Styling actually grew on me.

I dont know if they are smaller. Sitting in the back of one felt really terrible though.

Nah, you want the AT Frontier anyways, it's got 9 gears. That makes it 50% better than the fishbowl we are currently driving.

I’m sure it’s a decent truck but I absolutely refuse to drive AT:) I’m a strange guy.

If they are like the previous generation (and I think they are in this regard from some of the reviews I saw) I think the back seats are at a high angle / erect making them uncomfortable.

I drove a 2000 Frontier MT for 16 years before i traded for my tacoma.
I had a few issues over the years, the radiator had to be replaced around 130K, Distributor went out and left me stranded on a road trip around 150K and the brake booster went out shortly after that and i always had issues with my drivers side brake calipers going out every few years, the pistons would just kind of freeze up and not allow the pads to fully retract from the disc. It got annoying having to replace that shit all the time.

If I had to purchase one tomorrow it would.be a Pro4X, there wouldn't be a second choice.
Mostly because of price, and I haven't owned a Big 3 product since the mid 80's, no reason to buy one now.

Yes, that was exactly the feeling. Im sure it could be modified/swapped somehow blah bah blah. But I was so unimpressed I just thought they should have foregone the back bench and put in jump seats at that point.
