I have a 4.0L 4x4 and I average about 20 MPG. That is a mix of highway and city driving.
I've gotten as high as 24MPG on a tank before.

Someone mentionioned they were told 10% ethanol will reduce the mileage. I started to have to use 10% ethanol after the first year of owning the truck and I noticed the mileage is slightly worse when using this fuel.

I've had my 2009 Double Cab 4x4 V6 for 7500 miles. At first I was getting 18-19 MPG, the same as my old 1997 Taco. The last 2-3 months I've been averaging ~16 MPG. Driving is mixed, but mostly highway. I keep the tire pressure at factory, 29 PSI.

Any thoughts or is this normal with the 2009's?

    Hey Tacomaworld, I'm new here.

When I bought my 98 2.7L 4x4 manual transmission 4 years ago it was getting 23 MPG on the highway, and about 20-21 in town. Now it gets 16-17 in town and 18 on the highway if I'm lucky. This is all in the summertime, btw, as the truck is in storage in the winter when I reside in NYC. This sucks, what are the likely causes of this?

After searching around this site, I will plan to replace the air filter (although it is a K&N and I have been good about keeping it clean), fuel filter, and reset the ECU. Anything else I should be looking for? I haven't made any modifications other than replacing all terrain tires with street tires, which, if anything, should have helped me.

    Thanks!

With the last tank of gas, I babied the throttle, never once stepped on it, drove like an old grandma, pissed off the people around me. I have a 3" in the the front 1" in the back leveling kit with bf goodrich 285's and I just got 15.7. I thought it pretty good considering when I drove to L.A. I was getting 11-13.

Because, my friend, that would make too much sense. Also, it would require us Americans to accept another unit of measurement (more than likely) and we are too stubborn for that lol.

    Welcome to the forum
You might get better luck posting in the GEN 1 forum, there are lots of knowledgeable folks who hang out there & may miss your question in the mpg thread. Good luck.

Saturday I went for a ride to hit Defenders annual sale. 120 miles 'round trip to CT and back almost all highway doing 60 to 67 MPH. The scanguage showed 29.3 MPG for the day on winter gas!

About 24 on highway, 17-20 round town.

    Can't really complain.

The 00 they bought back got 27 on the highway and this is 2x the truck that one was.

I have an 09 double cab v6 4.0 4x4 6 speed manual TRD sport with 1300 miles on it now...
when I got the truck it already had 250 miles on it...they drove it in from vermont.
so I ve had three fill ups since.
17.4 mpg avg about 2500 rpm (60 mph) mostly hwy 70%
17.9 mpg avg about 2000 rpm (60 mph) mostly hwy 70%
17.6 mpg avg about 2000 rpm (60 mph) again mostly hwy

now I ve heard and read now that I should wait until about 5000 miles before I really get worried about the gas milage...so I guess I ve got some time.

I was told about an upgrade called a tornado, has anyone heard of it, and how much has it made a difference, also, does my taco have the tdr cold air intake...or do I have to buy that seperate
