That's actually decent for a 4x4 at 75mph. Drop the speed 5 mph and you'll close in on 20 mpg... or throw a lightweight tonneau on the back. I tracked my mileage before and after adding my Access L/E and got ~1mpg better highway mileage. Not sure if it's the long bed hanging out in the wind or what but it helped slightly.

Best yet... 288 miles and 14.1 gallons... 20.4 mpg!

That wasn't all highway either, combined. The truck has 3,000 miles on it and just got the first oil change. I really can't believe it, but I am sure it filled up, as I drove about 50 miles before the needle dropped below the Full line.

I am unsure as to why I am only getting about 15 mpg with my 2009 4x4 Tacoma. It has a V6 with 6 speed manual transmision. Any idea's? I do have a 3" lift kit and bigger tires but geezzzzz, does this sound right?

Maybe you are getting 18 mpg, but because your bigger tires are turning fewer times, the odometer is reading less than the true miles traveled. Ever do a speedometer check with the mileage signs along a country road or highway (if your state has those). Or, did you get a speeding ticket for doing 50, in a 40 zone... and your speedometer only was at 40?

Technically, I'm a 4 cyl 20-25 for now (see sig) but I expect to cross the 25mpg line in the next two-three months.

Any rough idea how much I could gain by putting a cover over the bed behind the workbox?

Today's fill up with combined city/ highway driving showed me at 16.7 MPG. The truck now has 3,700 miles on it, 2 1/2 months old. (4.0 V6, 4WD, DC, Automatic)

Best commute trip yet... this was in my driveway right after coming home from work. I put it in park and snapped the pic (sorry about the crappy cell phone pic - I tried to get one while driving but it was too blurry).

21 mile drive, 70% suburban roads, 30% highway... 25.1mpg :D (my SGII has been calibrated over the past 4 full tanks... it's within .1 gallon of accurate per tank)

I just drove from Flagstaff to Phoenix and back. Roughly 300 miles round trip.

On the way down I had a mattress and boxspring on the top of my camper shell.

On the way back the back seat and bed were JAMMED full of baby stuff.

Kept the cruise set at 69mph.

    Got 21mpg.

I hope I get better mileage when summer (summer gas) gets here.

    Jeff in Flagstaff

future plan of 2" drop and any type of rim thats not a steelie. grille and BHLM mods, maybe....
2010 2wd access cab 310 miles so far on the odo, filled up yesterday. Not sure how "full" the dealership filled her when i got her. I got 20.64 mpg 2.7L 5 spd. mostly city driving and not revving her out too much, under 3500 rpms. i have to say the gearing is great for highway. going to Hickory NC (from NJ) on April 8th, 770 miles, ill see what she does. my old GMC Canyon POS 2wd 2.8L Crewcab 5 spd got 32mpg on the same trip, rated 21/27.....so we'll see. 20.64 beats 16 i got with my Isuzu 4x4 that weighs 3850lbs...not much more then my accesscab with only 2wd driveline.

3" Trailmaster lift, 18" rockstars blacked out, 275/65/18 sxt mud terrains, more to come.
With the lift, rims, and tires, and the fact that I do mostly city driving, I usually get just under 16mpg. If I take it easy on a long freeway trip, I can get 18mpg, but it's pretty rare (the taking it easy part at least).:D

I just got 21 MPG for the first time last week! I've dropped my commute speed down to 60 mph and I think that has made the biggest difference for me.

It's kind of a fun challenge to try to get the fuel economy up. I've got a 100 mile round trip everyday so it makes quite a difference for me.

I get pretty crappy gas mileage (may be due to the lead foot I tend to have). I average right around 300 miles per tank, which is just over 16mpg
