I just don't understand why they needed to switch the pedal to FBW in the first place. My truck is 10 years old this year and has the *old* throttle cable. I have never had one problem with it. Kinda like the transfer case being controlled by a switch. WTF! If it wasn't broken why change it. K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) seems to eliminate problems. More electronics in the truck is just asking for problems and reliability issues.

I lost control of my truck a few weeks ago. jumped the median, oncoming traffic, the whole thing. I didnt consider it being related to any recalls. It would make sense however because I really have no idea how it happened, I was just driving in the right lane and then pow, I'm sideways at 70mph. The road was a little wet, but I not enough to make me do a full 180 across 4 lanes and a median. I was just planning on replacing my bent spindle myself, but maybe I'll call toyota up?

The stuck pedal thing DID happen to me. I thought it was a bunch of bull until it actually happened to me. I called toyota and I told the users of this forum. I'm not after any kind of compensation other than the truck I'm paying for. Nobody got hurt & there was no accident or damage. But the fact remains the truck was accelerating at a high rate of speed and my foot was off of the gas pedal. I was lucky this time. The dealership road tested & zip-tied the mat.

Well if my throttle cable breaks in the middle of nowhere I can manage someway to drive it out. If your drive by wire fails U be phucked unless you have a toyota parts department in the back of your truck. :)

If it is a computer issue, the most likely fix would be an update to the firmware. IOW, connect a computer cable and download new code. No parts, no disassembly. It would be the least expensive fix.

And for those wondering why Toyota went with FBW, there are some advantages over a throttle cable. Controlling the opening speed can help to minimize emissions and avoid drivability problems. The rev limiter becomes a lot softer. It can just reduce the throttle as the red line is reached. (At least that's what our '99 GTI did.) Instead of bouncing off the rev limiter it just levels off. FBW also allows better coordination of throttle with transmission shifts, though I do not know if Toyota does this. They also have the required parts for cruise control on all vehicles. Another benefit is that no additional parts are required to provide additional throttle opening for cold starts.

I'm certain that the benefits result in enough savings to cover the additional cost of FBW. No manufacturer would choose a solution that would result in overall increased cost on a part that most consumers have no knowledge of.

My 2005 PreRunner that I bought from an older lady just revealed this problem to me recently ( it happened 2x already) when it suddenly accelerated while I was pulling in to a parking stall at a restaurant. I am positive that it is not the gas pedal being stuck or getting caught under the mats because when I pulled into that parking lot looking for a an empty stall I was driving really slow. As soon as I finally pulled into one and just about ready to put it in park, the truck started revving really high, I slammed my put on the brakes to stop it but it still manage to hit the palm tree in front of me. People were staring and wondering what just happened. I was kinda shaken up, let alone embarrassed,it caught me by surprise because this was the first time this ever happened to me. The second time it happened was at a family dinner. As I was pulling in to park behind another vehicle, my truck suddenly revved high and launched forward almost hitting the car in front of me, this time I knew what to do right away, I again slammed on the brakes and popped it in neutral, it was still scary though. My wife asked me what just happened and I told her that the truck just did that crazy thing again.

It happened to me 2x already. I am now afraid to let my wife ever drive my truck, and she also said that she's afraid of driving it too ever since both incidents.

Same here, I am not looking to get compensated or to exploit the situation. I just want my truck to be a safe vehicle for me and my family, and of course the public in general. Can't say that I'm bashing Toyota bcuz I've been a Toyota guy ever since I first started driving, love them bcuz IMO and from personal experience they've always been so reliable. I hope that they'll really figure it out and come up with a real fix. Not zip-ties.

Make sure you arent hitting the gas when applying the brake. Pedal layout is weird. Coincidence that it happens right when stopping... Also the surging is real but you just need to keep good pedal pressure at stoplights. I can floor the gas and brakes and the brakes win.

Do these people that get into accidents because of random acceleration not think to just put it in Neutral?

Many of today's people are quite dumb enough to never think about doing the simple logical thing like that. Incredible.

One thing I really dislike about the Tacoma is the little pedal. I refused to let them cut mine on my 2009. My 2013 came with the small pedal and i hate it. Even with an 11E shoe i find myself hunting gor the pedal some times.
