Didn't read all 35 pages here, but does anyone actually know what happened? Was it a stolen car? I thought all Tacoma owners were upstanding citizens...

The first thing the finance guy told me when I purchased my new Tacoma. "Congratulations! You are now the owner of one of the most stolen cars in America!". Thanks dude. To make it worse, my wife drives a Camry, another super targeted brand of car.

Sounds like your finance guy needs to do some reading.

Here’s the NICB’s list of the most-stolen new cars last year:

    1. Nissan Altima, 1,104 units stolen last year.
    2. Chrysler 200, 1,069 units stolen last year.
    3. Toyota Camry, 923 units stolen last year.
    4. Toyota Corolla, 776 units stolen last year.
    5. GMC Sierra, 670 units stolen last year.
    6. Dodge Charger, 666 units stolen last year.
    7. Hyundai Sonata, 632 units stolen last year.
    8. Chevrolet Malibu, 629 units stolen last year.
    9. Chevrolet Impala, 594 units stolen last year.

His finance guy is doing exactly what the finance guy is suppose to do - upsell him on auto theft protection plans. Most dealerships have articles clipped out of magazines posted in the finance offices showing their models as frequently stolen. Usually positioned so people notice them while waiting around for paperwork or whatever else. If they don't notice it on their own someone likely will direct their attention to it when it is time to pay for etched glass and theft protection gap insurance.
