hey y'all I'm installing Archive's crosstube today. I'm removing the spare, but i also want to remove the stock spare tire bracket to do away with the chain. can someone offer the best way to do this? at least what size bolts hold it on above the bracket? it's a tight fit for my hands. TIA.

It’s a 14mm. Ratcheting is a must, flex head ratcheting is preferred. There’s 4 bolts.

I got mine off with a flex head ratchet wrench. You could try loosening the bed bolts a bit to raise it up a bit.

that's looking to be the only option i know at this point. funny, i went to 4 hardware stores looking for a flex head 14mm, and finally at the fourth store they had one but it wasn't reversible. i thought, what's the big deal, just flip it over if i need to reverse it. yeah i said that. turns out it's 13mm, but the set i brought also isn't reversible. :anonymous:

Amazon one-day one. Found one for $14 dollarydos. Another possibility is to thread the bolts back in cut the access then thread them back out.

I've already zip tied it in place so it doesn't rattle. I'll have it handled at Tandem soon, they are gonna rebuild my cv's in about a week. fun day learning about a new tool.. thanks for the help again.

Yeap, it'll make any future mods easier since you already beat the crap out of your truck

In all seriousness tho, get another ratchet(meant wrench) and loosen the other bolts that way the whole assembly can drop down and free the ratchet

I'll try it tomorrow. iirc the 2nd or 3rd hardware store today had a reversible 13mm flex head, either way at least i won't be making this mistake again.

It works, have had a few d'oh moments with that assembly and also with a front wheel bearing hub. Once the non reversible ratcheting wrench is trapped, the other bolts have to be loosened up without getting another wrench trapped lol

If you are in North Texas, try asking in the DFW thread, someone there will let you borrow their set and finish in their driveway
