Unfortunately not, I've had this happen a few times. Definately kills the cool factor of the truck.

If you short crank it stop and short crank it again you are going to inject more fuel then it needs just turn the key till it starts so what if it takes 5 seconds. We have been experiencing extreme cold for the last 3 weeks well below zero and yes I have to crank mine longer than normal but it starts.

My '13 has done this the last four starts...temps in the mid 40s when starting. Lows overnight have been high 30s.

Whatever this is, it effects my perceived quality of this truck which only has 1500 miles, bummer.

Mine 2012 has done that several times.
Would try to start and nothing, took 3 times one time.
I was getting ready to call Toyota.
It was like something was turned off, nothing, not even a kick...

Update on mine, I've run 2 tanks of 93 octane pretty hard on my Donna and hasn't done it since. Might be winter blend gas?

I wish I could say the same but it only acts funny when it's cold (relatively speaking) outside, any temp below 40F..

Mine did it again yesterday. Finally sputtered to life on the 4th start. It was colder today (20s), but it started fine that morning and every time after. It's also done it in every temperature, so I don't think the cold has anything to do with it.

While mine has done it in the past, it started up just fine the other day after a whole week of sitting in the garage. Temps were in the 40's in the garage at start.

Has anyone actually contacted their local dealer to see if anything has been reported about this and/or if anything is in the works in regards to this?

I just picked up a new 2012 last week. It's happened twice in the first 200 miles on the truck. Both times were in the middle of the day after it had already been driven earlier. I already have a habit of turning the key to the on position and waiting until the lights on the display go off from previous cars w/ similar issues. Sounds like a lot of other drivers are having the same issue. Other than that, I love the Tacoma.

I have. I was told to take a hike, essentially. They said it had thrown no codes and they couldn't replicate it, so there must not be a problem.

I have a 2013 and it takes between 2-3 seconds for it to kick on when I turn the key. My truck only has 1,400 miles on it. It is only a month or so old. My 2008 Mazda 3 that I traded for it, never had this problem. I find it kind of odd that this is happening to my truck as well as some of you. I have no smoke blowing however, as opposed to the OP. It may be something I have to get used to? If not, please enlighten me as to what is causing this and how can it be remedied?

    Thanks

Wonderful. After the first time it happened to me, I thought it was just due to a cold start and when I told my local dealer they told me to give them the truck overnight for a day so they could TRY to replicate it. No thanks...

i was too lazy to read through the thread, so sorry if im reiterating...but mine did that same exact thing for a few weeks, gradually worse and it was the battery on its last legs.
