Just seen it on the news..The spare tire plate that holds the tire up is apparently rusting out and dropping the tire. Be on the look out for recall letters they said going out starting next week

Thanks Joe for the heads up. I'll have to take a closer look at that tomorrow.

EDIT: Just read the article 03coma supplied... Doesn't affect Colorado owners, but I'll check anyways.

Perfect timing...mine just did this and when I called National YOTA they said no...:(

Dealer was about to split co$t on the parts with my labor.....;)

NOW IT IS ALL Toyota :D:D:D

They would have been smarter to INCLUDE this in our Re-frames.....

Thanks for the heads up, mine is in bad, bad shape.
How does this work if this truck was recently purchased by me?

ETA: my spare tire is rusted terribly bad too. This truck lived in New York for most of its life.

    OK,

    Easiest way to do this ;

Write your VIN # down and call your local dealer with that info....
SHOULD not matter where the Tacoma was purchased...

Re-Call campaigns are listed by year of manufacture AND verified by VIN's....;)

I know Bill Dube Toyota and I will be having a "talk" this Friday about setting up an appointment...tired of my spare riding in the bed...

1-800-331-4331 and ask them to check your VIN # for you.....;)

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Are they replacing it with a bumper/tire carrier?

Now why would I want that  :p Hell I will take the NEW PARTS BUT I will remind them it was the ONLY piece not replaced during the re-frame ;)...

I am going to have more fun and ask for an ALLOY wheel for a replacement for the steel wheel that bounced off the road...dam spare has only been on once and that was for all of 5 miles out of 10 years .

They had the same problem with the early tundras. For the guy going back to PA see if Toyota will coat your frame for you. If they won't go on eastwood's web site and spend some money on 3 cans of their internal frame coating and probably another 3 cans of black rust encapsulator for the outside and follow the directions. The stuff really works.
