I posted about this recently but didn't get much info.
My 17 trd sport 4x4 seems to bog down when I try to accelerate coming out of a stop, it seems like the truck struggles to tev up then after a couple seconds it will accelerate good. I started to have this issue a couple of days ago, truck starts just fine but sometimes it sounds like it starts a bit reved up as well. No CEL codes or anything

My 2023 does this, I think it's normal. This is why some people get a tune.

There was numerous TSB's that addressed this when the 16-17 models were dealing with these issues, have you ever had any updates completed?

I've experienced this too on my 2019.

My 2023 hesitated at launch. For me, it was downright dangerous. I was gonna live with it but one of my kids got me a “peddle commander“ ( $300 ). After 2 or 3 days of searching for best settings for me, hesitation is gone. Mileage also increased by 1 mpg, but it’s possibly due to engine break in.

My favourite with mine is when I want to pass someone and I press the pedal and it bogs for 10 seconds, then slam downshifts and causes me to break traction. I’m amazed after years of these types of complaints there isn’t a class action or something. Toyota failed a lot of third gen owners with poorly programmed/possibly defective transmissions and torque converters.

I agree with this. I think that the way a stock 3rd gen (auto trans) shifts and fails to respond when you attempt to accelerate is ridiculous and can be dangerous. A tune completely fixed the issue for me.

My wife used to get angry at me before I got the truck tuned because she thought I was doing the lurching thing on purpose to “be funny”. She literally wouldn’t believe me that the truck just shifted like that.

Its for gas mileage reasons. Get a tune and your truck wont be in fourth gear when you pass 20 mph.

No tunes I tried did anything for shift points or bogging, but that was years and more than $2000 dollars ago. Never did get some of the tunes I thought I was paying for (anyone remember 2.0 performance promises?) Done with tunes. Rolling stock and mostly accepting truck as it is. It’s great in pretty much every other aspect for me and I still enjoy it. Few years ago I jumped in on tunes because everyone insisted it would fix the issues I was complaining about. It didnt. Today the claims remain the same and I’m extremely hesitant.

I’ve been running the KDMax tune for years and I absolutely love it, for what it’s worth. Although they recently merged with YotaWerx so not sure what they’re offering now.

I never noticed this issue with my newly purchased 2021 TRD Sport, Auto/DCSB in May of the same year.

Did the OTT Tune in May of 2022 and found the sweet spot at: Mild Drive/Spicy ECT as of Oct 2023.

Of course, I did baby the throttle and never punched it for launches that first year...lol!

She drives just fine since I brought her home on May 14, 2021.

Could try disconnecting battery for a good while and drive it aggressively to reprogram the ECU and Trans.

Have a 2017, no issues with this until the crank position sensor went south (my vin wasn't caught in recall despite month/year being effected), now it does the same occasionally.

The 2GR-FKS engine will run better on higher octane. The stumbling and poor performance is due to the ignition timing response due to the knock sensor. Higher octane will help. Tuning can also help (with or without higher octane fuel) by avoiding the 1800 rpm tip-out knock that triggers timing retard and overall poor performance.

When an entire cottage industry is built around a product's weakness (dare I say failure), that is when you know it's a significant problem.

I hate that, then it downshifts two gears and revs to the red line... I agree Toyota failed big time. I use the ECT and S mode, most of the time. I would of sold the truck if it wasn't for S mode and the ECT button...

Have you considering getting a tune? That would probably mitigate the issue, at least partially.

My '21 TRD Sport DCSB did this as well. Sold the truck. '24 6.4L Hemi Power Wagon does not have this issue.
