    Hi,
I'm a new member and I had a question about high mileage Tacomas. I'm considering buying a Tacoma for my son, its a 2002 V6 4X4. SR5/TRD. Power everything, Bedliner, sunroof. The current owner has replaced the Timing belt, water pump, upper stream oxygen sensor, rotors, break pads, shocks, all 3 new belts, news tires, front windshield. 220000 miles. Asking price is 7500 OBO. My question is do you think that is high mileage, especially for the asking price. My concern is that with my son about to be traveling to college that the engine may be getting tired. Appreciate any help.

220 K miles is not bad if maintained. I have 223 K on mine. I would check the frame for rust before I would be concerned about that kind of mileage on these engines.

Do a search on high mileage and you may be surprised. The Toyota dealership down the street from me has a T100 parts truck with 938,000+ miles and still running strong.

Seems a little pricey to me personally. I bought my sr5 prerunner( I’m pretty sure) 2-3 years ago with 107k miles for 8g. Then again it’s only 2wd and doesn’t have a a sunroof but it does have every other option.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the miles if the maintenance was kept up. It’s just one factor of many to consider.

I paid $6500 for my 298K 2004 Xcab 4wd with aftermarket bumpers and a dent in the left rear. It runs well and now has 336 on it. No leaks and while I have to do some work to it, it is a dependable rig I am happy with.

I know you can't depend on KBB. But I just put my 04 DC V6 4x4 TRD. that has 260k and did Private party sale. It came up with this. These trucks hold their value if they're maintained.

Pay an independent mechanic to inspect it, including a compression and leakdown test, and a detailed frame inspection.

    You'll know then.

as long as it was well maintained and taken care of, there's no problem, as these trucks don't die. Also, mileage tells how far the truck has been driven, not how. Ask the seller what he did with it, what he used it for. If it wasn't abused, it should be alright

The first thing to check, though, is for frame rust. The frames on these trucks are known to rust and rot pretty bad if not properly rustproofed. Then check if the truck is mechanically sound

I understand what market pricing is for these trucks but I'm surprised to see KBB is pretty much spot on the market with their pricing as well. Nice.

I bought my 99 prerunner with 270k on it, but the guy who owned it maintained it. The oil looked like it had never been burned, ever... He changed it every 3k lol and used synthetic... She runs great and I am currently a college student. Its a five hour drive.
