I was excited when I saw a hybrid Tacoma but it seems the hybrid part only kicks on during takeoff and punching the gas or some towing not like a regular hybrid it kicks into hybrid mode battery only when the battery gets charged should have called it start assist. So if you have a regular true hybrid don’t get confused that this one is like that.

I wouldn't care to have a hybrid true or not.

They always said “not a true hybrid” about my little Honda insight. Never knew what they meant.

I have a hybrid it’ll kick in to battery only at 70 or any speed if the hybrid battery is charged enough so it runs on battery only and you get much better mpg. Not just during take offs. I can run around town on battery only if it’s charged enough Tacoma isn’t like that so I wanted people not to think it is. But I’m sure they’d figure it out on a test drive if they don’t pre order it.

I’m sure when the mpgs come out as 24 or less on the sticker they’ll know it’s not a true hybrid.

It sounds like you don't know what "hybrid" means.

Is the McLaren P1 not a hybrid? The BMW i8? How about F1 cars? Do they not use a HYBRID combination of power sources?

Whether it's for power or fuel mileage (OR BOTH) when you have multiple forms of horsepower generation, it's a hybrid.

Efficiency isn't just about gas mileage -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_efficiency

It could be a hybrid assist based on user throttle input. Toyota have great software for full hybrid and hybrid assist. Either way the effect is the same. Improved lower end torque and improved fuel mileage and fewer emissions.

Hybrids, except Prime, run on battery if your speed less than 20 mph. It only allows you to drive on battery for about 1/2 mile depending on the conditions of the battery and the road.
So you cannot run around the town in regular Hybrid. Works great in stop and go traffic

I don’t know if this is a government term or a marketing term, but full hybrid means the electric motor is capable of moving the vehicle by itself.

Either way, it's a great addition that adds lots of torque and should offer good fuel mileage.

They could just put a bigger gasoline engine in it and spare all that hybrid Rube Goldberg bullshit.

They could have done most anything. Once the BEV comes out that power will make this engine seem like a scooter.

And it will only cost $100,000 and compete with the hummer electric vehicle so only douchebag UFC fighters and TikTokers can afford it.

Doubtful it will be priced even near that. I'd say mid 50's

Performance electric vehicles with explosive acceleration are just to get people excited about the technology and be toys for the rich.

Consumer electric vehicles will have bland powertrains and very uninspiring performance.

If this is going to have the massive powertrain you’re suggesting, it’s not going to cost $50,000. If it’s going to cost $50,000, it won’t get the powertrain you’re suggesting.

I know exactly what it means. I won’t be getting a 2024 hybrid Tacoma!! If it only helps on takeoff a Ram has that same thing I think it’s called E torque at least they didn’t call it a hybrid trying to make it sound like you’re getting a HEV.

    From Toyota's site

You don't have to agree with it but it is a hybrid powertrain.

So you think they’re going to be selling 600 hp pick up trucks that go 0 to 60 faster than a Corvette or Porsche and have a 300 mile range for less than $50,000 when people are currently buying versions of these vehicles for $80,000 and up. Makes sense.
