The biggest advantage would be off-roading. Having the wheels closer together reduces the chances of "high-centering" the vehicle.

I like the color, but then again green is my favorite color. the only thing I wouldn't want is the short bed. I don't need a big cab.

Shorter wheel base would be great for off roading. I really like the color, I don't know why, probably b/c it's different than every other car out there. I agree with nd, that HP gain isn't really enough to switch to the V8 but it is a damn fine truck. I love the whole design. Just my opinion.

This is definitely a custom grill. The only way I see it for anyone to do it is to get online, type in mesh grills. What you will be searching for is this: companies that sell the mesh by the foot, usually about 98 bucks for the opening in the tacoma. That was the price for a stainless steel mesh grill usually found on GMC Trucks and Chysler 300 cars. You will have to do all the cutting and prefab work yourself or farm it out to a body shop. As far as the TOYOTA emblem, you can either buy the letters @ 5bucks a piece (look on ebay as I posted in a previous thread)
or go and get a similar emblem from a FJ CRUISER (1st edition) 1970's You can find that on ebay also. Obviously there will be alot of cutting on the shell and it would help if you had a dremel or similar tool.

Type this in ebay: UNIVERSAL CAR TRUCK DIAMOND MESH GRILLE GRILL INSERTS Item number: 190137364772

I think that with all the hype and to be politically correct today, you must have a "GREEN" theme. However, puke green is not politically correct, especially a flat puke green. The color of this truck reminds me of a hospital room

One thing I cant understand and maybe someone can explain this to me. If your going to build a truck specifically for off road adventuring, why put a big gas eater in there?? Obviously you aint going to find a gas station for miles, and the space used up for storing gas cans could be used for something else. What am I missing here??? Do you need all this power/torque to go where no one else can? I think any properly set up 4 or 6 banger can do the job just as well along with someone who is an experienced driver.

so explain this to me without flaming, ty

I'd explain it to you, but I agree with you. I think the 4.0L is all you need on a Tacoma to get off-road. Then again, Toyota could get better mileage out of a V8 with a combination of a direct injection system with variable valve timing and a 5 speed automatic transmission.

I still think a V6 or I4 turbodiesel would get much better fuel economy ESPECIALLY off-road. I think the torque and lack of weight from the V8 would make it a formidible off-road machine that can go the distance with the same size gas can. ;)

Ok, I am off my soapbox. :p

    AGREED! Yuck man.

If I want a V8 I'll just get a Tundra. If I want an Urban assualt vehicle I'll get a Jeep and paint it camo.

I have to agree with sunrunner, regarding the engine size. Like i posted earlier, i would rather have a jacked up 4cyl or 6cyl with as much torque as possible than a v8. Although i love the compact size for off-roading, and for some reason LOVE the color scheme. i know alot of people think it's ugly but i love it!

Found this a few days ago in TN. Appears to be similar to the SEMA Truck. The grill requires some modification and alot of work. They include pics. I am in the middle of doing this mod also.
Tried linking it here but not successful. Found in the DIY Mod sticky.

Just type in [IMG] Satoshi Grill Mod - DIY

One thing I did decide on, doing this mod, I am not going to put any emblems on it. Doing the headlight mod also, using white instead of black. I did this on my white Tundra and it came out pretty good. I ordered the paint in spray cans using the paint code from paintexpress.com so I can get an exact match.

On a side note here, being retired and way too much time on my hands, I ordered a new vanity plate for the 09 taco, after spending hours trying to come up with something that I could get past the motor vehicle dept here. Much to my surprise, it did. Look at my avatar and then hold that up to a mirror! The plate sits on the taco now.
