I would not want to tow more than 4,000lbs regularly with this truck up and down significant elevation changes like we have here in AZ. Could it be done? Sure. I felt fairly comfortable with 2500lbs behind my truck but it still screams like a banshee in 4th gear to maintain 55mph when climbing here in AZ.

Now if I lived in Texas, Nebraska, Florida....maybe 4500 or so wouldn't be bad at all. Capacity be damned, this is not the best choice if you plan on towing 5,000Lbs+ on a recurring basis.

I tow about 2000lbs weekly. Sometimes I tow that up to Kansas City and back. The MT makes this little pickup a mean little puller.

However 6000lbs is a little heavy. The truck could certainly do it, but you're putting a lot of stress on brakes and a driveline that's designed for getting A to B.

Both dealers and trailer sales people are selling their product not driving them either

Check the tow rating on the 4.6l tundra. It's only slightly more than the Tacoma.

I was also looking into it for awhile.

Good luck and welcome to TW!

it's not just about power for towing, it's about stability on the road, and the size and weight make the Tundra definitely a better choice to me, especially in poor road or weather conditions. more weight, larger wheelbase.. it matters in poor conditions with 6k lbs. behind you.
