    Out of pure curiosity:

I would love to know how many 2021 TRD PROs in Magnetic Grey with a manual transmission have been made so far in 2021?
I would also love to know by percentage of the total production of TRD PROs how many were Manual so far this year?

I've read that only about 5% of the total production of Tacoma's are Manual transmission, but I haven't had any luck finding whether that 5% trend also applied to the PRO trim. It's possible that Toyota may favor building manuals in other trim levels and only building a few in the PRO trim. Which would mean that manual PROs are rarer than one may think.

Here is a the link for this weekends update, sorry for skipping last week: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vikLw_TLgcc0jk9tmv8hqi3j-InjHYK4slzKBcWblrM/edit?usp=sharing

I'm going to try and respond to some of the comments since the last update.

Discrepancies between dealer inventory and the spreadsheet: I'm pulling the data directly from toyota.com, using their search tool. I've often noticed that cars listed on toyota.com are either en route to the dealer, or not already sold. One dealer I've contacted is notorious about this. Their website constantly has 20-30 Tacomas listed while the spreadsheet has 10-15. When I call about vehicles they always either say, "There is a deposit on that vehicle." or "That truck is already sold." or "We don't have that truck here yet."

I recently called a different dealer about a truck, the one I was calling about didn't show up on the spreadsheet on Sunday. Showed on their website on Tuesday (when I called), and already had a deposit on it. They did say the have the same truck in silver available. This silver Taco wasn't on the spreadsheet (therefore not on toyota.com) or the dealer website.

So I apologize about some of the frustrations. I wish I could do something about it.

How I do this: I've written a script in R that leverages toyota.com's search functionality. It's possible to reverse engineer how they are pulling the results from their database for display on the website. In order to do this I needed to get the internal dealer IDs to search. The Dealers spreadsheeet has that info. Then it's a matter of iterating over each dealer and pulling the data for that dealer. I'm a little wary of sharing the code because I don't want to be told to stop doing it. I will share the code on 2 conditions. 1) that you don't share the code with others. If someone else wants access I'll provide them with the code. 2) use a VPN when you run the code. Warning: the code is very messy. I have plans to improve the automation a bit, but that takes time.

Searching for Tundras or 4Runners: It is possible to do this. I'll need to investigate how the data is served differently. For instance, when I pull the data for a Tacoma on of the fields is bed length. That field probably doesn't exist for 4Runners. I'll report back when I make progress on this.

Daily updates: I need to figure out some better automation steps to help this process along. The most time consuming part is uploading to google drive. If everyone is okay with me sharing a csv I can do that a little more easily. Deal?

Okay folks. There you have it. Hit me with you questions, comments, etc.

FYI: I did buy a 2012 access cab V6 MT. It will be delivered shortly. I can't wait to officially join the TacomaWorld community!

Awesome update! and thanks for taking some extra time to answer questions KMG!!

This update had the truck shown on my dealer site, actually hit the lot yesterday. I called and they wouldn’t budge on msrp. I’m in no rush but this tool you’ve created is great!

    Thanks again

Yeah, that seems to be the case here in NV/ID/UT as well. Nobody wants to budge on price. Or maybe I'm a pushover?

This spreadsheet isn't tracking the Tacomas sales stats very well (https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/toyota-tacoma-sales-figures/). In April it says there is 24,448 cars Tacomas sold. We barely have that in the spreadsheet right now. I'm sure there are lot of things to take into consideration. Business purchases, etc. are included in that figure and probably aren't showing up on the sheet. Same for pre-orders or custom orders?

I wonder if python would be easier as far as automation? Scrape the data and export into a local folder that is sync'd to google drive?

    Thanks for updating.
Is it possible for me to search your list for TRD OR 4x4 DCSB with manual transmissions?
I do not need code or have any idea how to use it.
Getting tired of waiting on my dealer. Not opposed to flying somewhere to speed up the process.
Thanks again for the effort. It would be helpful if i knew how to use the data!

If not too difficult - or while testing your code refinement; a mid-week csv would be huge help. This sounds like a big enough effort on your part, to do it daily seems excessive…but I know nothing about coding…

Eyes on the ground report. Local dealer has 1 Tacoma. A 2018 parked out in front like it's a new model just been released.

This is a very interesting data set. Thanks for posting. Wish I had this data before I started my allocation process.

I’m not sure it represents the definitive record of what Tacomas were built between any two dates, but it is a very large sample for looking at what configurations Toyota is building, relatively speaking. Following is some analysis of major characteristics from this data set. I remove the duplicate Vins before looking at the numbers and had over 24,000 configurations.

If you can do pivot tables in Excel, you can look for just about any configuration. For instance, my new truck is in this sample. It is one of only 10 Army Green, Access Cab, Off Roads built during whatever period this data represents. 10 out of 24,000 is pretty rare, and I’m glad to have it.

I don't know how to make the columns hold up, but I think you'll get the picture. 24,254 was my base for calculating each percentage.

Thanks for the data analysis, very interesting. I found that many not listed as sold are already reserved. The market is getting tight.

    This is awesome, OP.

I wonder if some of the discrepancies you're experiencing (already sold/has deposit) has to do with custom orders. For me, I had ordered my Tacoma from the dealership and waited several months for delivery. I imagine when a VIN gets assigned in production, it'll naturally get added to Toyota's database, regardless of whether it's already been accounted for locally at the dealership.
