Check your rights under California insurance regulations, you don’t have to use the repair center they recommend you can chose your own. Call the California insurance # listed and read your rights.

FWIW, hit and run will fall under uninsured motorist, not collision. Some people only have the minimum UMC property coverage so check your policy. There's also a different deductible for UMC.

Just got this one - it's a work in progress.....
    Dang that sucks.

So does Caliber. Run....don’t walk....but run - away from Caliber.

I had a brand new car once - only a few day’s old with a couple hundred miles - got rear ended. The insurance (usaa) had some sort of partnership with Caliber - both refused to use genuine parts, etc. it was a fight for sure.

That really sucks man. Hope the catch the guy, but I would guess they didn't have insurance if they ran.

Also, the shop isn't going to side with you on a total loss. 1. they want the $ from the work they will do to it and 2. they want those storage fees to pile up.

Wouldn’t that come out of my own pocket, since it’s not with the insurance partnered list?

Tell your insurance company that you want nothing but new OEM Toyota parts, no refurbished OEM parts (scrap yard seconds). They tried that on a vehicle that a guy backed his trailer into and I told them no way. I did have to get a lawyer involved, fortunately for me I worked as there Office Administrator for 17 years and he didn't charge me anything. Sorry for your loss :(

People who worry about if the cars/trucks are still safe after an accident, take it from me guys, I'm riding around on my motorcycle all year in all weather. Whatever the shittiest car you ever drove in your life and think it's unsafe, it's still 100x safer than being on a bike. So unless you have a scumbagged insurance company, you wrecked yours to a point where the tailgate is the behind the back seat and still insist to go to the shadiest autobody shop whose sole purpose in life is to ream your anal hole while spitting at you, I say that fear is unfounded.

That said, I feel your pain of finally free of the car payments, babied it from day one so you could drive it forever. This seriously put a couple dents into that plan (pun intended.) I know you want to start over, which is undertandable. Even if it's totaled I don't know if they give you enough to put you into a new Tacoma scot-free.

I showed these pics to an insurance adjuster friend. Says the Tacoma resale is so high that it is often cheaper for the company to repair it. She also said she can’t see how there wouldn’t be frame damage though which obviously changes the outcome.

My ex girlfriend was in an accident a couple years ago where her daughter rolled her Jeep, somehow my ex was able to sue her own insurance company for injuries.

    Wow...

How about letting it play out first? OP I'm in the biz (NOT Auto though) and you want to see how the assessment turns out before you go in with guns blazing like some posters here are advising.

    • Get an attorney: for what? You aren't suing anyone. If you sue your insurance company for bad faith there needs to be a documented history of malfeasance by the insurance company that you can prove to a jury.
    • Call your insurance commissioner: Same as above - they don't want to hear about what "might" happen, only what "has" happened.
If you immediately start threatening "my attorney " or act like an entitled ass you'll find that 1) things will go slower since everything has to be scrupulously documented in anticipation of ending up in court, and 2) any leeway you had that the company could "make a judgment call" just went out the window.

Let it play out first, be reasonable, and then assess your options.

    Other points:
    • It's "YOU" and "YOUR" not "U" and "Ur".
    • Taking your truck to a Ferrari body shop may result in a "Ferrari " estimate but the company is under no obligation to PAY those rates. You're better off finding a competent, honest shop that does good repairs.
Just my $0.02, and my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it. ;)

Read the entire thread, you'll see the lawyer/Ferrari body shop advice.

guy Ur the 1 being reactionary

there are Many posts..............many points o view

depending on the state navigating insurance takes better than a phila lawyer

some will only provide vehicle same/ similar mileage ( odometer fails on comparison same miles does NOT = condition )

some simply cut a check fair market value..........go out buy a LADA if U like

repair not taking in consideration to resale value

i DID NOT........i have NOT told the OP or anyone else what I would do

what they should do.............I only offered up consideration

    only ' blazing gun ' is U !

You can go to any shop of your choosing. You shouldn’t have any limited of where to take your vehicle to.
from the assessment portion I think a tech from the shop has to go over the damages with you. To make sure they didn’t miss anything.
The shop sends a Quote to the insurance company. Then the insurance company will approve if the cost of repair (Parts and labor) is less than the value of the vehicle. so if the cost of repair is greater than the value of the car it’ll be a loss.

There are some shops that will call it salvage Even if there isn’t to much damage to the vehicle. They just charge an arm and a leg to the insurance company to get money and to get you some money lol
