LOL... OP mistakes the lack of some fluff features for lack of quality. He must be dyslexic.

    1) Any vehicle with a steel frame will rust away quickly in areas that use salt and other corrosive chemicals on the roads in the winter or anywhere salt is present for that matter (beach for example), frequent undercarriage washing and/or proper rustproofing treatments can mitigate this pretty well.

    2) It's a midsize truck it's not meant to carry a huge payload, there was some issues with them but Toyota recalled most of those and fixed them.

    3) not sure what all the fuss is about here, is it old technology? Yes but they do tend to last longer and don't tend to suffer from warpage under heavy braking like disc brakes do (why do you think 18 wheelers use them?)

    4) I will put our "plastic" bed up against a steel/aluminum bed any day (unless you like a dented up bed), it takes a hell of an impact to damage it where as steel/aluminum beds dent/scratch very easily.

    5) Almost every vehicle manufactured since the late 90s has a plastic fuel tank, in many ways they are actually tougher than steel tanks.

    6) I will kinda agree with you here but many manufacurers have cruddy paint quality (auto paint is water based now).

    6) Interesting...

    7) I can point to much worse design flaws in much more widely produced vehicles (GM's AFM lifter failure comes to mind), almost ever vehicle made has design flaws somewhere (some are worse than others).

    8) Can't really blame Toyota here, tailgate locks didn't really become a thing until around 2010 (Toyota tends to be slower in adopting new things but they also tend to get it right the first time for the most part).

As far as overall reliability I still think Toyota is about the best you can get.

All I know is people keep trying to buy my truck, not sure why they want to buy that peace of crap.

I've had my 2020 SX for two years with zero mechanical issues so far. I did get an OV 87 tune for better gear shifting, no longer using the ECT function all the time and added the front seat jackers for better seating position.

Bruh, have you ever heard of the Triton 2 valve and 3 valve f150s? 4.6, 5.4? Lol. Tacoma is like a rolls Royce compared to those.

The thing to realize is Toyota put all the money/quality into the drivetrain on these trucks. Everything else is deliberately cheaper to meet a price point.

They're still a hell of a truck and the resale is great. That being said i've had 1st gens... seems each generation looses quality in some areas but gets better in others. What i'd like to see is where they know they have a real problem (frame rust) they actually do something about it.

Posts like this have convinced me my Tacoma is a POS, though I love it and it’s never given me trouble.

I dont think it matters what you buy anymore. with Toyota Honda and Mazda, you have a better than average chance of getting a good car. My gripe with Toyota is their customer service. They lost us because of it. My 13 Sienna had leaking struts at 20000 miles, and they kept telling us that it was not a leak but a seep instead even though I had 2 mechanics saying otherwise. When the warranty ended Toyota then said that was a leak and wanted for us to buy the struts the warranty should have replaced. There was also a steering coupler issue that was sluffed off even though it is well known they go bad and then with my 17 Tacoma it sat for more than 2 months after I hit a deer because they kept sending the wrong parts to fix it. The body shop told me to take my truck home and bring it back when they send the right parts. Eventually they did. I am enjoying my new Mazda CX5. It could have been a Rav4 instead.

What the OP needs is time and experience. He needs time with a piece of crap to appreciate a Toyota.

Dunno, I somewhat agree. The legendary Toyota quality ended before 2009.
They allowed the supplier to put crap paint on the frame for 10+ years. It's not the steel, it's the paint. I'm in TN- my frame looks like it's been in MI since new. How this garbage paint passed any sort of salt spray test is beyond me.
Front wheel bearings that typically fail before 120K. And they still use the same system. Has anyone had another vehicle that had wheel bearings that regularly fail so soon? I haven't.
Terminally squeaking clutch pedal in the 4cyl 5 speed. They couldn't engineer a clutch pedal that wouldn't squeak? It's not exactly new technology. And same thing with the 6 speed T/O bearing issues reported here.
Sorry but this stuff isn't acceptable today IMO

Some folks come on forums like this looking for a fight. They will start a thread with the purpose of rattling cages. If that doesn’t work, they will scrape and scrounge through your comments and try their best to find some point to argue and start a war over. That’s their only reason for being here. They probably go on 100 other forums and do the exact same thing. I often wonder if those types own or have ever owned any Toyota product.

No. I don’t blame those people. Heck, if I was 45 years old, lived with my parents and did nothing but lay around in my underwear, eating McDonald’s Happy Meals and watching porn on my computer all day, I’d probably be mad at the world too.
