I bought a '92 Toyota 4x4 V6 RC brand new. Head gasket replaced at 3000 miles (recall). The clutch disintegrated at 12000 miles and Toyota wouldn't cover it under warranty claiming it was operator abuse. I swore to God I would never buy another Toyota again mainly because they didn't honor their warranty. I bought a 2013 Tacoma 3 months ago and I love it so far but I still don't think I will ever buy a new Toyota again.

They must have seen you coming if you’d pay the big Toyota bucks for something as crappy as what you describe. A fool and his money are soon parted. :rasta: I guess being the fine upstanding young’un that you are, you’d never sell or trade that POS with all its issues to anyone else.

All vehicles have build quality and mechanical issues. Take your pick. If you're not happy, trade for a different one. :notsure:

True. I had a 2007 4 door 4 cylinder Colorado. Bought it used with about 120k miles on it. I actually liked the truck first year or so, though if you punched on the gas the engine would roar loudly with little acceleration, I told passengers the gas pedal was actually a volume control lol. Replaced a blower fan resistor no big deal. Then weird electrical issues, A/C and fan would stop working, electric windows wouldn’t work even the turn signals wouldn’t work. And wouldn’t turn over the starter sometimes until I played with the ignition switch, took key out and back in, opened the door, etc. All intermittent problems that would come and go. took it to the dealer twice, they could t find the problem. I researched the electrical system (I’m a electrical/controls engineer) figured out it had to be the body control module, took it back to the dealer and said replace the BCM. They replaced and programmed it and that fixed it.
At 147k miles got a P0019 code, mechanic replaced a sensor, didn’t fix it and wouldn’t pass inspection. Had another mechanic check it out, excessive end play in the crankshaft, rebuild or replace engine. Nope-traded it in on my Tacoma. No regerts lol.

A fellow at work had a Dakota, looked ok, not too old, he had a big note on it as well.
One day he comes out for lunch and finds his fender flare laying in the parking lot -- everything behind it had rusted away.

In less than a year the other 3 fell off too. :rofl:What a :bucket:

I worked with a woman that had one. Before 86K, both the engine and tranny gave it up.

He had the note long after the truck was gone.

I did plenty of research prior to buying a taco. What I learned is what I wanted didn’t exist. Nobody makes small trucks. Regular cab options are few. Everything pointed at the taco as the best of nothing but bad choices for my needs.

I came very close to buying one new but wanted v6 manual which left me with one choice, 4wd access cab. I didn’t want 4wd, strike one. I wanted regular cab, unavailable in any flavor, strike two. Hard to justify close to $30k for something that had 2 major strikes against it.

Had a buddy with a '07 5 cylinder extra cab he bought in '08. The worst fit and finish inside and out of any truck I had seen. Incredibly cheap interior bits. Everything was thin, cheap and flimsy. He bought it used, one year old about 15k miles. He kept it for a couple of years. But dumped it for a Frontier.

I'm sure the 2nd gen Colorado is an improvement

I agree with you on the body panels being cheap skins and my hood and roof are rusted, never had that happen on any truck i owned including my 93 toyota pickup. The motors are great but everything else is cheap shit and i would take my 93 over my 07 any day.

Buddy of mine has an 01 or 02 Dakota with like 330k on it. My dad's wife has an 03 RAM 1500 and everything on the truck has been replaced aside from the frame and body. Engine overhaul last year after a head crack. Just a comparison lol

My Brand new 1992 4X4 Etra-Cab V6 5Spd head gaskets went twice. Once under warranty and again out of warranty. Toyota covered it both times. Sold it after 14 years and still had the original clutch after 200K miles. Well maintained tho.

I replaced the clutch myself (a centerforce not Toyota) and kept it for another seven years before selling it. Took it to the dunes, on Jeep trails and never had another problem with it (the truck). The clutch was defective from the factory and Toyota basically told me to pound sand.

My tacoma has been driven in the salt day 1. I do get it a yearly rust check spray and I only wash it once a year before that spray job. My spare tire rim is rotted bad because I take the tire off before I get it sprayed, I should replace it honestly. Everything else under the truck is blacker than the day I bought it. There is rust under the hood on hose clamps and random bolts, the brakes were rusted bad and I had to replace all.

That 3.0....or "3.slow" as we called it back in the day was kinda of a turd. I grew up on 22Rs with less than a hundred HP. So the thought of 150 HP sounded awesome! But in reality the 3.0 didn’t feel particularly stronger than the 4s in the real world. And yeah....the head gasket situation wasn't the greatest. Definitely not one of Toyotas finer engines.
