As much as I love regular cabs, the extra space in the access cab is really nice. From groceries, gear and luggage to rifles and friends, it's been a well utilized space.

I was tempted greatly by a 2004 regular cab SR5 with bucket seats a few months ago, if the frame (already replaced) was a little less rusty it'd probably be in my driveway.

My dad always said regular cabs are nice to go pick stuff up in, you just can’t bring it back with you :D

I donno if it's too big, I drive mine into a city 4 days a week, it does fine.
I guess it's really an opinion thing though. Everyone will feel differently.

I could be off a year or two. It was the last year of production I wanted and it was a while ago so I'm probably wrong.

Seems like you’re just a rookie that hasn’t gotten used to driving a Tacoma.

My Job sometimes requires me to drive 24 foot Box trucks around Chicago and I haven't crashed one yet in 18 years. I can drive a big truck no problem, I just hate doing it if I'm not getting paid to. As far as parking in and around Chicago? I drive past many spots that my Subaru or 07 Reg cab Tacoma could've fit in. Fortunately my Tacoma is just a toy and won't be driven in the city much. No regerts. The fact I now live in the burbs, have a garage, and a good city car enabled me to buy my Tacoma. I just like driving small trucks more, probably because I'm a sports car guy.

I'm surprised the AC doesn't come with a short box!

Why? The AC with a short box would mean yet more factory retooling, another frame design, not to mention a comically short wheelbase.

I've grown to really like these 3rd gens, although if mine gets hit like my '17 did, I'm going back to something between '85-'04, for the nimble tiny truck feel. I'm also a sucker for cheap plastic, retrofitted CD players, and throw-rug seat covers.

Silly. You're posting on a forum where the average person on here is a mechanic with a garage full of tools, a TRD Off-Road manual transmission, doing big mods, and into off-roading.

This is funny, I work civil construction and I think my 19 dclb is too small! Using a laptop in the truck is always uncomfortable and I really wish my longbed(with toolbox) was bigger and deeper. I live in Texas and our jobsite are all throughout the hill country so space is not an issue like OP mentioned.

So do you have anything to add or are you just trying to establish you are Cooler than me? I'm sure you could skip this conversation and look at something about off roading or big Rods. There seem to be some people here who had relevant comments or similar feelings. I don't go to off road threads and bash Mud tires. Feel free to disappear. I had enough of guys like you when I had Wranglers, except it made sense with those guys since they were constantly being tortured by that solid front axle. Seriously, try being likeable.

Yes, traded for a GMC Sierra with a V-8. I started towing a 2 place trailer with Snowmobiles and ATVs and while the mini Taco handled it fine the Sierra was much better. The Sierra was my only car at the time but I got rid of it shortly after I sold my toys and trailer. I dumped it quickly after realizing my Towing days were over. My job requires me to go all over the place and I usually don't have time to waste finding parking, especially during a 14 hour day.

I like both small and large versions of the Tacoma, each very handy/functional in their own way.

I’ve had 2 2nd regular cabs over the past 12 years. In between an 89 4Runner and a 91 LC the single cabs fit my lifestyle so much better.

Anyway, I picked up this 2011 last January with 33,000mi grandpa driven 14k out the door. Surprises me the price they are going for else where.

    Said vehicles are below.

    Mostly dust and dirt.
    I downsized from a half-ton truck (Ford F150) to a Tacoma.
    Seems pretty small to me.

The Tacoma is like Goldilocks to me, not too big, not too small, but just right!

Toyota put one together for SEMA 2008. Access cab on regular cab frame with a short box. Even had a V8 in it.

I think if you want a new small truck, your only option is a Frontier.

I had a 2nd Gen Tacoma and now a 3rd Gen (both access cabs) and the 3rd Gen feels larger when I drive it.

My friend has a 2018 Frontier King Cab and it is smaller and easier to drive in the city, you can reach into the bed easily from the side of the truck and it's easier to park. Downside it's based on a 15 year old design and the interior shows it.
