Hate to break it to you but it’s normal. Although some do it worse than others. I’ve owned 4 3rd gens tacomas. My 2020 Trd sport was HORRIble with this issue my 2023 barely does it but I do notice it slightly once in while. It’s the computer not knowing when to downshift. It’s getting confused. It’s not a mechanical issue just annoying

I think you're partially correct. Imo, if you refrain from those S, and ECT models while the transmission is learning your driving habits, and road conditions, you're not likely to have any weird stuff going on as time goes by. At least thats what the service manager told me when I picked up my new truck to drive home. Yeah, the truck did some weird gear hunting for at least 1k miles, but totally straightened out a few hundred miles later. At 22k miles it's perfect. I never use ECT, and very seldom the S modes, like their not even there.

And I was going to point out that jerks came in all marquees. But because there are a lot of Tacoma's on the road, math says they may have more jerks than a lower sales volume marquee.

As far as the real problem @SomeDude&Tacoma ; Exercise your warranty, and nicely ask them to do a proper fluid level check on your trans, since that's no longer part of dealer prep.

And rotation / balance is supposed to be part of one of those 'free' services.

I totally misunderstood the title of this post and was going to bash all the jerks who are giving Tacomas a bad name.
