Just did this today for my 09 taco. Followed instructions fully and it worked flawlessly. Got my programmer and blank off of Amazon for $17 total. Ace Hardware cut my blank for $1. Thanks OP

I followed these directions and was able to program my new key. However, the immobilizer light continues to flash when the truck is running. I tried turning it from off to on 10 times quickly and it still doesn't reset. Anyone have any ideas? It's an 08 Tacoma.

I found a video on youtube that shows what my truck is doing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFZxo1loupw

I noticed a few quirks during my programming:
I only had 2 sets of beeps, there was no long 3rd beep. (it beeped when I plugged it in and after about 30 seconds it beeped 3 times)
The immobilizer light never turned on solid when programming the keys, it always flashed.

I bought the truck and only received 1 key...I have a theory that I have the Valet Key and I've been able to program another Valet key. Does anyone with a valet key know if their light flashes when the truck is running? I don't remember my truck flashing like this before....but I may not have been paying attention.

Has anyone successfully programmed a key for a 2012? My key programmer beeps once when plugged in and then about 30 seconds later it beeps continuously like there's an error. None of the methods have worked for me.

I'm also trying to program a second key for a 2012. I bought the green OBD II transponder adder tool and aftermarket keys (the ones that already have a transponder code, which need to be added to the truck's list of accepted codes, by the green box). The green box says it works for Toyota G and H keys. Mine does the quick beep when plugged in, then immediately does two long beeps like it is supposed to, then nothing. The security light never starts blinking and the followup two beeps are never heard (it says this should happen 2-3 minutes later). I've seen mixed reviews of these online. I'm getting pretty annoyed with it though.

I'm wondering if I got a bum transponder since it just does a ton of beeps and nothing at all similar to everyone else's experiences.

So, a question.... I did not get a valet key from my dealer when I bought it new. He said it had one, BS. Now wants to charge me for one. I do not see any instructions for creating a valet key only for a new master key. Since the dealer can make one there must be a way. Is there a difference in the key? Can I buy a valet blank and have it cut and program it?

    Thanks

Well the transponder is in the key, and it doesn't beep. I think you mean the transponder-adder tool. These are cheaply made in China, so it doesn't surprise me that many of them are junk that don't work correctly. My first one made no noise at all, as if it weren't even initializing. It took me 2 weeks to get the seller to send me a replacement. The replacement beeps as it should, but the truck never is placed in the programming mode. I don't know if it's a problem with the tool, or if the tool simply doesn't work with the 2012 tacoma.

So the guy I bought my truck from was kinda shady so I order new locks for doors, ignition cylinder and 3 keys. Do I still need to program the keys if I replace the whole. cylinder(tumbler)? And does this work with G key blades? This post just told me to move on because I have a G Blade key https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/updated-tacoma-key-programming.356068/

It is designed to work with G keys, but I could not get it to work on my tacoma. This would not work for your situation anyway, because this device requires you to have 1 programmed key to duplicate to the other keys. If you're changing locks and cylinder, you won't have any programmed keys. You'll need to have a professional locksmith do it. My locksmith cut and programmed 2 extra keys for $60 total, so you should be able to find someone to do it for far less than the dealership.
